MARION - Fantasia

A blend of electronic beats with a hauntingly beautiful duduk, Canopus continue my series of tracks dedicated to the stars, this time with a chill electronica track,  that evokes an ancient atmosphere.
Canopus is not only the second brightest star in the sky but also the star around which Frank Herbert created his memorable odyssey, Dune. This book has become one of my favorites in the past years since I read it, so I could not miss to make a chillout track dedicated to this star.
Since in the last film adaptation, maestro Hans Zimmer set the musical tone for the world of Arrakis, I took notes on how a song dedicated to that world should sound.

Oscuro - Waiting for a Sign

I think this is my best song this year, and probably one of the best chillstep tracks in my discography. 

Like with many of my tracks, the title came to me during the creative process. The harmony I chose for the melody evokes several moods, which eventually led me to this name. The track starts with a sense of nostalgia and reflection and ends with feelings of hope and acceptance. I believe the melody and harmony together capture the cycle of life without needing words.

I went with a very slow beat on this one, a chillstep beat with future garage influences. The intro is really atmospheric, and then it becomes more melodic in the breakdown and second drop, where a pluck and vocal work to convey the mood of the song.

And no, it’s not an adaptation of the famous song from The Lion King! I only realized that after Googling the title. :)

I really hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.

One night, Giuseppe Tartini dreamt he made a pact with the Devil, who became his servant in exchange for his soul. To test him, Tartini handed him a violin. What followed was the most beautiful, wild sonata he had ever heard. Startled, Tartini awoke and rushed to capture the music, but what he wrote down, was only a shadow of the melody that had filled his dream.

The one we use as a scape goat to run from the burden of our mistakes and despair. The one to pay the price of our desires and the one to carry the weight of our broken dreams. The Devil haunts artists dreams, not as the personification of evil but as the channeller of raw inspiration and true creative freedom. 

That's all we aspire to: to be free, to not bend to the imposed design and limitations of our nature.

And the price? We burn our soul until the brightness of its flames shine some light on the path we blindly walk so we don't feel alone.
