What The Fuck (Funkagenda Remix)

A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration. 

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint. 

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

Above & Beyond feat. Ashley Tomberlin - Can't Sleep (We Are All Astronauts Progressive Mix)

Moonlight was the brainchild of Ben Hunt. Moonlight was released globally in 2009 on Digital Insomnia Recordings and I was asked to complete a remix as part of the release. 

The main melody of the track was cut up and re-arranged to create a more uplifting sound as I thought the original mix sounded pretty dark and was not the sound I was wanting to achieve with the remix. I also wanted to give the track a nice minimal vibe with a rhythmic bassline (I was listening to a lot of Cosmic Gate at the time) so there are a lack of elements featuring in the remix, purely because I wanted the listeners focus to stay firmly on the melody and the bassline. The remix received decent support across the global DJ scene and was tried and tested by many DJ's in clubs all over the world.

The RADIANT. label from Switzerland is one that deals in emotive, colourful dance music and has already made its mark with tracks from the likes of Sabb, DAVÎ, Super Flu, Roy Rosenfeld and Armonica, with all 4 releases so far on the label, reaching the Beatport Top 10. Now Fabio Aurea feat Toshi steps up with a spine tingling new tune. Toshi recently had great success with 'Ngeke' also which got remixed by andhim to great effect!

It is an epically atmospheric African vibe cut with serene synths and warm chords that lift your soul. The beautiful vocal from Toshi really casts a spell and the whole thing is rich in emotion. It's the sort of cut that will be the high point of any set and marks a fine release from this impressive young label.

Sam Round is an electronic dance music artist based in Worcestershire, UK. Over recent years, Sam has written, produced and performed under the name of 'SJR', aimed primarily as a driving Tech-Trance act, writing and performing with music that slams the speaker cones and shakes the foundations. Sam has achieved relative success with his few releases under SJR. SJR's music has been globally released and supported by some of the worlds finest DJ's… 

Now, after taking time out from the music scene to focus on his studies at university, Sam is preparing to launch a new project under the name 'Meela'. Meela's music will be catered to a wider sound of dance music, an act intended not to be limited by the boundaries, allowing himself room to experiment, though, to a certain extent, Meela will mostly be centred around a more chilled, uplifting, melodic and emotionally fuelled sound. 

More importantly, Sam will be combining the two individual styles of his dance music acts and will also release music under the joint act, 'SJR & Meela'. This will allow Sam the freedom to truly express himself across the spectrum of electronic dance music, taking elements from his harder SJR sound and mashing it up with mellow, experimental and melodic Meela vibes.

Sam is currently preparing his new tracks for release and cannot wait to share his latest creations with the world. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for music by: 'Meela', 'SJR' and 'SJR & Meela'!!
