Sonification resonance

The Imaginarium is a unique pearl gleaming within the beautiful galaxy of Lithuanian festivals. Super small in size, yet abundant in beauty of all kinds, the festival is – first and foremost – about the joy of the creation process. This is an essential aspect of human growth that is often overlooked during modern-day events.

Pretty Much tribe nurtures a culture of support, mutual creation, and skill-sharing. With every third person of the collective having learned how to use the DJ decks, it was only natural to take a step forward into music production. This is how five producers were paired with six beginners to go on a unique musical journey together for this compilation of six tracks. Each of them explores the idea of connectedness because the main theme of The Imaginarium VII was about transforming aloneness into oneness.

We believe that genuine and meaningful connections are what every human being truly seeks. The question then is: what if some of the energy put into hyping up people with big names was redirected into fostering co-creation? How much is it possible for a person to open up due to the environment?

To answer this, Pretty Much tribe has built a utopian village that values sharing over commerce. A space where every individual can bask in the sun of imagination by playing an important part in the collective. Gain a glimpse into The Imaginarium VII by immersing yourself in this idealistic compilation.

30 - th podcast is up in the clouds. First part of the show is dedicated for sharing some wavy world rhythms and fresh music from Baikal Nomads VA compilation Badarchin. As always, we left  last quarter of first part for inspiring dj and producer from the Netherlands - Mattheis. On second half we prepared one more classical album from Austrian duo Tosca. They dedicated the album to Zen master Shunryu Suzuki, who happen to be a monk, a teacher, and an author of widely popular book Zen mind. While listening Suzuki, prepare to fall in deep meditation state of mind, release yourself from any strings, thoughs or forms, as a true Zen Buddhist would do.

Tai - 31-oji laida, kartu su Emancipator penktuoju pilno metro albumu Baralku. Šiam albumui Doug Appling sėmėsi įkvėpimo iš vienos Australijos salos gyventojų, kurie tikėjo, jog pomirtinis gyvenimas yra jų sielų namai. Jis - amerikiečių didžėjus ir prodiuseris, susidomėjęs muzika ankstyvoje jaunysteje, kuomet tėvas supažindimo su elektronine muzika, o mama - su afrikietiškų garsų paletę. Vaikystėje Doug'as grojo violina, mokykloje mušė būgnus, koledže susidomėjo muzikos teorija ir ten, savo ruožtu, išleido savo debiutinį albumą Soon It Will Be Cold Enough. Kaip ir praeiti Emancipator darbai, Baralku prisotintas malonių world muzikos nuotrupų ir klasikinio hip-hop’o beatų, o pastaroji sintezė jau seniai tapo autoriaus braižo dalimi. 

31st podcast along with fith full-length Emancipator album Baralku is now online. During album production period, Doug Appling, the author, got inspired by one of Australia island tribe, which believed that death brings their souls home. He is american DJ and producer, who got into music at early age, when his father introduced him to electornic music and mother presented native african sounds. During the childhood, he was playing with violin, drums and in the college he dived deeper into music theory, where finally he succeeded to release his first album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough. As his last works, Baralku is full of cosy world music attributes and classic hip-hop beats, which over the time became his major music production accent.

Skalbenkėje mes norim pagroti ne tik tai, kas yra šviežia, bet taip pat skirti dėmesio ir tam, kas buvo kurta nepaisant laiko nuovokos. Du škotų broliai skirtingomis pavardėmis, Michael Sandison ir Marcus Eoin, pradėjo kurti po Boards of Canada pseudonimu viduryje 80-tųjų, o savo debiutinį albumą išleido tik 1998 metais, būdami vos 27-rių ir 26-rių. Nepaisant jauno atlikėjų amžiaus, pirmasis albumas buvo praturtintas solidžia branda ir kokybe, kuri nenustoja stebinti bei kelia žavesį netgi iki šių dienų. Šiai dienai BoC yra išleidę 4 studio albumus ir 6 EP, o per paskutinius keletą dešimtmečių jie sugebėjo išlikti aktualūs ir svarbūs visam elektronikos žanrui. Gero prisėdimo.

If you been looking for something considering the greatest psychedelic album of the ‘90s, Music Has the Right to Children could be your thing. Here at Skalbiankė, we tend to not only follow what’s hot, but also show something designed to be timeless. Two Scottish brothers, Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin, started to play as Boards of Canada in mid ‘80s and released their debut album in 1998, when authors were aged 27 and 26. Despite being so young, the quality and maturity they brought to the release was and still is exciting. Today BoC have released 4 studio albums and 6 EPs, over last few decades they stayed relevant and important for the whole electronica genre. Have a pleasant sit.

Talk Talk’ų Spirit of Eden buvo kaupiamas kaip koziris visoje esančioje kolekcijoje, kuris kurtas prieš tris dešimtmečius ir įtakojęs daugėlį vėliau egzistavusių grupių. Visos kūrinio detalės, nuo tempo iki tuštumą keliančių pauzių, meistriškai nugludintos ir pateiktos kiekvienam intymia muzika besižavinčiam klausytojui. Tobulas darbas, kuriuo mėgausimės dar ne vieną dešimtmetį, todėl jaučiame milžiniška privilegiją dalindamiesi jį su jumis.

We’ve been gone for a break. Not a long one, though, but it was needed. 2/3 festivals already visited and we promise a brief overview of what’s been seen and experienced. Meanwhile, have a listen of our 40th podcast with, perhaps, the most honorable album of all by our kind opinion. Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden was released more than three decades ago, although its subject may be defined as timelessly relevant for one on one listening. As Pitchfork started its review on such a beautiful path, we would like to quote it with honest approval:
“The timbre, amplitude, frequency, and duration of every note on Spirit of Eden tell a great, sad story of pop music, a war of art and commerce that birthed a new genre in its wake. Its breadth and scope are intimidatingly large: Silence is as important as tone, stasis is as important as movement. Inky chord progressions resolve into mystery, and lyrics leave only afterimages. The emptiness of its first two minutes allows you to adjust to the dim light of an album recorded in almost complete darkness. Then it just glows.”
