Continuing the Most Violent Year Album project, NC-17 returns with the second instalment of this epic trilogy of long players.

Each part of this album series was written during a year in which the global pandemic took hold, intense political disruption created unstable futures and media outlets across the world became further polarised and outraged, creating vast swathes of angered and confused people, unsure of who to trust. This second edition encapsulates that paranoid, tense, terror - moving on from the looming dread of the unknown that formed the basis of Part 1.

Beginning each part of the album with an entirely new batch of tunes, Part 2 represents 13 of the best cuts from over 50 tracks written just for this chapter of this epic trilogy. By beginning with a fresh palette and creating entirely new music for each section NC-17 was able to keep each part distinct, and the music contained within this speaks exactly to the feelings he experienced during the project.

Alongside 8 incredible solo productions are collaborations with some of the dnb scene’s most notable talents, 5 exceptional tracks featuring Kolectiv & OB1, Myth, Philth, Dr. Apollo and Logam.

Representing the continued development of the NC-17 sound this album includes some of his best work to date, we’re proud to present ‘Most Violent Year Album – Part 2’.

A.M.C finally returns to his own Titan imprint and he’s wielding his heaviest weaponry. The thunderous ‘Southpaw’ EP is his first full release for the label since August 2013 - and his first solo EP since November 2012 – and it’s his largest ever body of work. And, as its boxing reference suggests, it’s going to cause serious knockouts throughout the summer. 
Five tracks, each precision-penned during a near-constant life on the road, ‘Southpaw’ EP is a chance for A.M.C to showcase his true steel. Inspired by an endless blur of peak time international slots and major European festivals, he’s been sharpening his sinewy sound to the point of lethal weapon distinction. Brandishing a trademark sound that is very much his own, A.M.C’s strident signature has never been expressed with this amount of detail or drama before. Let battle commence…
‘Die Hard’ follows. Opening with an outer-planetary salvo of pads, an obese groove drops from nowhere. Laced with an excitable middy fidgety riff that squiggles and scrapes its way over the bulbous bass with mischief, A.M.C paints a volatile picture that’s so versatile you can picture it working in the set of any D&B sub-genre.

Soul Trader continue to come up with the goods. Their string of recent releases has seen the West London-based label drop some heavy, deep beats on their fans and new listeners alike. Now on to their 15th release, DJ Surplus’ imprint presents the Molly EP from Data 3.

Data 3’s twisted, rolling music has previously seen the light of day on Skanknbass, Most Addictive, Soulvent and GTA Records, and support has been swift from both Radio 1 and 1Xtra. The quality of their music, as evidenced on the new EP, allows them to fit seamlessly into the vision and ethos of a label like Soul Trader. 

The title track floats into view, raising on a bed of emotional piano and some ticking intro beats. Electronic noises breathe their way in, before a vocal sample gets repeated. All this builds up slowly into an almighty drop, where the bass comes to the fore and establishes itself well. Things grind along on a level, with the producers dropping in sounds and melodies to create a sweeping, multi-layered tune with both feeling and power. They don’t forget the core elements of some heavy drums and well-worked low end, which are there in abundance. Let Molly take you away, far into the distance, far into the future.

Translation returns with the long-awaited Prints of You Remixes EP to continue the sonic exploration of its namesake, which marked Nuage’s transition to house and bass music. Up first, veteran London-based outfit Blu Mar Ten deftly re-imagine the album’s opening track Colors at a crisp 170 BPM, applying lush atmospherics, energetic breakbeats, and rolling basslines for an uplifting dancefloor vibe. Next, Nuage delves into experimental/post-modern drum & bass territory on his remix of Waterfalls, crafting an immersive, naturesque soundscape with a subdued percussive shuffle, twinkling keys, and bouncing 808 bass. Fellow Saint Petersburg based artist Bop applies his signature “Microfunk” sound to Overseas, juxtaposing crunchy lo-fi drums and glitchy FX with the uplifting house vocals and soothing synths of its predecessor. Ownglow’s journey began back in the hot deserts of Flagstaff, Arizona where the breathtaking San Francisco Peaks first inspired his debut EP ‘A Walk To Remember’. By infusing any sound around him Ownglow’s style breathes a rare and raw quality into drum & bass from snares of forest sticks, white noise of high school hallways, crashing waves of San Diego beaches and samples of a Six Flags rollercoaster. 
 
The EP follows Ownglow on his path so far. A gorgeous fluttering vocal in ‘Angels Sing’ reflects the beautiful views of the Pacific Surfliner journey that he took while writing the track. All the way to ‘The Night Is Still Young’ pieced together - with another exciting young talent Blake - after a night out at one of east London’s drum & bass residencies.
 
Ownglow’s ambition left him to pick up and leave home at 15. While sofa-surfing around LA he realized his love for electronic music and the dream of working with Hospital Records. Since then he’s immersed himself in the world of drum & bass making a huge move to the UK. 
 
In the last two years his feet have barely touched the ground playing sets on USA soil, sold-out UK venues and summer festival stages. Now he’s found a new home in Forest Hill just a walk from the Hospital Records studio where he put the finishing touches on all four tracks and the self-designed record sleeve of his exciting and pivotal debut release.
