Meet Barbara: This song is about my friend, Barbara Turnbull, who passed away May 10th 2015. She was one of the most inspiring and intelligent people I’ve ever met. At 18 she was shot during a robbery leaving her paralyzed from the neck down. However, she never let what happened stop her from living life to the fullest and accomplishing her dreams. She became a journalist with the Toronto Star, wrote two books, fought tirelessly for accessibility rights, and was posthumously called to the Order of Canada. I struggled for literally years to write this song. It was difficult to put into words how her life and her passing made me feel, but more than that I wanted to create something that would honour her legacy. I finally did it… this is Barbara.
