We’re proud to welcome inspiring London based producer, Jordan Peak, to the Skint umbrella, and what way to initiate him than with two of the most prestigious X-Press 2 catalogue tracks in existence. 

Jordan opens by tackling “I Want You Back” with a full bodied approach, adapting the Original for the darker, heads down dance floors with a punishing closure, impacting on the hearts and heads of clubbers with this definitive track once again.

“Smoke Machine” is second in the firing line which delivers a familiar blow to the Original, following patterns that emerge within the genre to update the classic techno edge of Smoke Machine, to a punishing, hi-hat laden foot stomper.

“Trip to NY” reintroduces Mihalis Safras to the Skint catalogue in 2014 on peak form. Safras employs the darker tones he often recruits whilst distant sounds of a playground echo's in the background. Disrupted patterns roll through the lifts in anticipation of the forthcoming chug. 

Hector Cuoto immediately ups the tempo, slams on a hard 4/4 and gets things going on remix commitments. A squelching bassline ploughs its way through filtered hi hats before a soothing synth line curbs the track into letting lose for peak time fun.

Cut La Roc is a name affiliated with the formidable rise of Skint and Big Beat in the mid-‘90s. He served over the worldwide tours, was a staple of the Big Beat Boutique in our hometown of Brighton, and released some of the most classic Big Beat productions to date, including Hip Hop Bibbedy Bop Bop and Post Punk Progression. 

Currently now running record label & DJ agency, Rocstar, La Roc dug out a special mix lifted from the Breeze Block series featured on Mary Anne Hobbs’ show on BBC Radio 1 in 1998. The perfect way to look back on what a contribution he made to the scene;

House music mainstays X-Press 2 return to Skint in collaboration with Leo Zero for their next release and cook up two killer house cuts in the process. A remix from Matt Karmil rounds out what is sure to be a massive EP.

X-Press 2 have been dictating house trends for years now. Despite their heritage, though, they are still at the top of their game, still heading the finest clubs and festivals and still serving up high impact club tunes. Here they join London’s Leo Zero, a long time remixer of acts like Bryan Ferry and Paul Weller as well as the owner of his own underground club label, Leo Trax. Known for his great skill as a cosmic and balearic DJ, this is a fine hook up with great results.

 High impact opener ‘Metrowave’ is a full fat house track with firm drums, raved up synth stabs that fire across the groove like a machine gun and buffed metal percussion that really works you into a frenzy. It’s sweaty, features some wild melodies and is sure to get floors moving as one.

Remixing is Matt Karmil, who has released on Idle Hands and Studio Barnhus as well as having put out two great albums. His organic, fresh sound finds the Englishman flipping ‘Metrowave’ into a brilliantly sun fuelled house jam with lush smeared chords, bouncing rubber drums and lots of energetic dynamism, this is a massive mix that is certain to do damage.

Due largely to the dominance of Virgin & HMV in the music retail wares of the late 90s, independent dance labels were often forced into over ordering vinyl stock - it is for this reason, and this reason alone, that there are currently 64 copies of Devil in Sports Casual available for 0.49p. 

So why revisit a track that 303 people have and only 31 want?

Well one reason is that the 20th Anniversary of the Midfield General's debut LP Generalisation is approaching in 2020 and we thought we should get some remixes done. 

The main reason however is that we love Cousn - dynamic duo from Bristol - we knew they were right to remix Devil in Sports Casual when we heard their track "Before It's Too late" - a rant and a breakbeat, all perfectly engineered for the dance floor. Their Unholy Remix brings the original version 22 years into the future...
