This commercial for Amos 'N' Andy #2 by the legendary Charlie Cook, better known as Country Boy, was recently discovered in a box of very old reel-to-reel tapes.  Country Boy was well-known in Durham and the surrounding area. He worked mornings at WSSB for many years and later worked at WTIK. People still talk about him as one-of-a-kind.

Two-thirds of Old men In Hats with a great old country song written by the legendary Eddy Arnold. Ray Charles did a pretty fair version of it too. While Steve Shelton recovers from surgery, Kenneth Bloom and I enjoyed performing it at Muddy Creek where Bill Poindexter made this recording.

Just Because

This is a true story about Lem Bennett, a legendary man who was our neighbor in a different century.  Lem sounds like a genuine character, but a terrible neighbor. After Christmas of 1899, folks sure knew to be careful what they said to him.  Newspapers of the day carried his story carefully and those clippings contributed to this song as did Jason Anthony and Steve Shelton.  Lem Bennett's grave is marked nearby.

This song is the result of my struggle against cabin fever on a rainy winter's day.  It was a whole lot of fun, though.  I hope you like it too.
