SKP 001 - Strange Movements (Album Sampler) OUT NOW

'Magellan' is an exploration through gritty and crunchy harmonics, scathing basslines and searing halftime rhythms driven by pounding drums. The EP can be characterized by heavy use of foley and noise sampling crafted with layers of distortion and dramatic sound design. 
The opening track KARMARMOUR sets the tone with a vicious riff based drop and juxtaposed with hints of heady melodies, followed by a carousel of samples and textures on DOSES. ALL NATURALE is a devious sub shaker featuring beastly riffs. The EP closes with the neck-snapping ASSASSIN'S RIDDIM that captures the essence of dark hip hop swagger soaked in warm saturation. 

The EP is designed to tear the fabric of space between the speaker and listener, laying the foundation for a genre lovingly termed by the artist as 'Thunderfunk'.

It was around 4.20pm in Okedo’s home studio in Goa. Ishaan was deep in the hard-drive dusting off some cobwebs. Will was on rolling duty, but it was also his lucky day! He could hardly believe his ears when Ishaan opened up ‘Impulse’ - a track he’d made when he was living in a hot box in Bombay, with his flatmate who made sure the plants were watered everyday. 6hrs into a youtube rabbit hole looking for samples, there appeared a track with beautiful Spanish guitars and serenading female vocals. Ishaan’s first impulse - chop up that beauty and make a 140bpm banger with a floor tom playing cross rhythms of 5/4. Soon, Ishaan found himself looking at a chaotic but blissed-out scene at the sea, ready to be explored by someone else.

Weeks later, Will sat down for a Saturday afternoon session and opened up the project. With no premeditated ideas, he started listening and began thinking about his older brother, who lives in Malta, a small Island in the Mediterranean where he loves to swim. Will also loves to swim, in the lake just opposite his house in Goa. In that moment, he had never felt closer to his brother and missed him terribly.

All of the vocal and instrumental ideas were written and recorded in that session and haven’t changed since. There is definitely plenty of bullshit out there about ‘artists’ and ‘inspiration’, but it almost never works out that way. After all, the track has taken plenty of hard work since, but the boys have preserved the spontaneous ‘Impulse’ behind it as best they could.

Introducing Non-Linear, the moniker of Goa based architect and digital artist Dennis Fabian Peter. Through his work as Non Linear, Dennis explores temporal ideas in the fields of music, visuals, interactive art & spatial design. Inspired by Science Fiction and the concept experiencing thoughts and reliving memories in a non-linear timeline - this artist’s work is an accurate reflection of exactly that. 
Non Linear makes his debut on Skip-A-Beat with ‘This City Swells’ - a gritty, groovy and pulsating sonic representation of the city of Mumbai, accompanied by visuals created using open source maps and GIS models of the city. Dennis initiated this project during his time at the ‘Selector Pro: Visual Music Residency’, which was organized by The British Council, Future Fiction & Skip-A-Beat.

Skip-A-Beat is an independent record label & creative community, based in Mumbai, India with a commitment to showcasing the best, emerging electronic music and beats compositions across the region. Imagined by electronic artist & multi-faceted creative, Spryk as a monthly radio show on Boxout.fm pushing the future sounds being crafted by producers across Asia. The label aims to shine a brighter light on this lesser explored, beat-laden side of exciting and forward-thinking electronic music being made in the subcontinent.
