Ragtag post-punkers Acrobatic Society are to release their new EP on March 4th 2013. Kick Me, I’m Down will be unleashed through Tiny Lights Recordings.

The EP follows their acclaimed debut EP release, Meat Meets Meat. Recorded in a dank room in Byker, mastered by Frankie and the Heartstrings/Soundtracks For A B Movie/Minotaurs man Mick Ross, the band self-released Meat Meets Meat in late 2011.

Having been making music together for two years, Adam Pearson (vocals/guitar), Scott Harrison (vocals/guitar), David McDonald (drums), Sam Megahy (bass), and Sinead Krzyzyk (violin) have dragged their sound from Eastern Europe-spiked folk through to the contemporary, and desperately visceral. Often tagged as post-punk, comparisons have been drawn to the likes of Fugazi and Sunset Rubdown, through to Captain Beefheart and XTC.

Following the release of Meat Meets Meat, the band slaved away in countless claustrophobic, sweaty venues to make a name for themselves in the midst of the bustling North East music scene, and come summertime, had built a solid reputation for the breathless intensity of their live shows. As a result, they were cherry-picked to perform at Evolution Emerging and Split Parade, as well as bagging a support slot with Edinburgh outfit Meursault. Bookings in 2012 have landed them before audiences in Manchester, Hartlepool, Sunderland and beyond. (Though their favorite gig turned out to be in a sticky little practice room with a crappy PA , and a sound-man passed out on a sofa.)

After a brief spell recording with James Hall of Let's Buy Happiness, Acrobatic Society shut themselves away to work on their next release, recording all but the rhythm parts themselves, in addition to mixing. The turbulent, cabin-fever-tinged period very nearly drove each member to their own personal nervous breakdown; something that has intensified the band's pride at the finished outcome. “Regardless of what people read into it,” states drummer David McDonald. “We're really happy with all the arrangements, and what's has gone into the songs. We're not overly precious about people's opinions, and we don't expect to change the world overnight, so why not?”

From the haze of friction and lunacy of recording, Kick Me, I'm Down has risen to be the band's most honest and actualised work to date. Acute ferocity, fused with melody and bitterly resonant lyrics create a refreshing offering of intellectually arranged melodies, and a savagery that is so often lost in modern music.
