As Moments Pass - a bi-monthly ambient radio show

I got the chance to play at the second edition of Blackwoods, a rave somewhere in the woods near Utrecht. Man, they did a got job organising this party. This is the 1-hour recording of the set I played.

Since I was the second-to-last to play, I tried to raise the tempo a bit by playing some more hardgroove and lyric-heavy tracks to keep the audience awake en moving during the late night. It's not the cleanest mix I've put out, since there weren't speakers as output (rave was a silent disco), so needed to get use to the different way of mixing but 15-20 minutes in I really did get the hang of it. It did turn out great, had an awesome night and I'm very keen to share this 1-hour (hard)groove/techno set.

Sklasi & Re:set 001

What do you get when put two people with exactly the same music taste behind the decks? Right, this. Re:set and Sklasi have known eachother for some time and they're still amazed by how similar they're taste is. Put them together behind DJ-decks and you get a mix full of hypnotic, yet energetic techno filled with unexpected but amazing track choices. And most of all, they like to play around a lot with faders, echoes, filters and 4 decks.

This is the first mix of much more to come. Re:set his goal is to introduce his audience to the freshest tracks with unearthly, new sounds. Sklasi his goal is completed when you can't figure out the different tracks but it all just sounds like one big track. And the result is just so good.

We both really liked making this mix and are really excited to reveal the result our first b2b. Let us know what you think and for now, it's a waiting game for more.

Every year, I present my musical vision for the coming year; a moment of reflection and anticipation. In this vision, I showcase the styles that will likely shape my sound, but it’s also a summary of my musical journey over the past year. With great pride, I present: Vision for 2025.

The mix begins with a subgenre that’s hard to define, until about a month ago, when I stumbled upon the term Ambient Techno. That, to me, says it all. Artists like Luigi Tozzi and Claudio PRC are true masters of this sound. I’ve completely (re)discovered my love for slow, atmospheric, dubby techno, and I expect these elements to be a major part of my sound in the coming year. This style also perfectly aligns with my Set the Mood series for Oefenmeesters, which focuses on opening sets. Slow is making a comeback!

Another key focus will be non-4x4 rhythms. Call it breakbeat, breaks, or drum & bass influences; to me, it’s simply fantastic. These tracks can bring unexpected twists to a set while keeping the energy intact. They add tension, break the rigid structure of a four-on-the-floor beat, and make DJing even more exciting and dynamic.

Finally, I want to incorporate more old-school tracks into my sets. Partly for nostalgia (because let’s be honest, some tracks are simply timeless) but also because they often have a raw edge that fits perfectly with my deep style. And last but not least: recognizability. Music triggers memories, and bringing back those emotions through the tracks I play is one of the most magical aspects of DJing. In this set, for example, you’ll hear "Meditation Will Manifest" by Josh Wink.

This mix ties it all together: a journey from ambient techno to deeper techno, infused with breaks and a classic. Enjoy this musical vision, and I'm curious what you think

Vision of 2025

Hey everyone,

I've decided to upload my ambient set from last Saturday’s Oefenmeesters x Up the Road club night at KABUL à GoGo. First of all, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to create an ambient experience at an event that usually revolves around full-on dance music. The chill-out area at KABUL à GoGo provided the perfect setting to try something different; with cozy chairs and a couch, people could really unwind and decompress.

The response to the set and the experience was amazing, and it’s got me excited about what more we can explore within this often underappreciated genre.

My set drew quite a crowd (big love to my friends for showing up!), and I really wanted to help everyone reset before heading back to the dancefloor. That’s why I mixed in some neo-classical tracks alongside the ambient ones. I’m genuinely happy with how it turned out, and so thankful for the chance to share this more introspective side of my musical taste with an audience.

What to expect?
A nice flow from ambient to downtempo, into ambient techno and raising in catchy slower groovy sounds. Lower bpm's, less intense sounds, but catchy rhythms to loosen the hips and get excited for the rest of their night.

Thanks already to the De Ontgroening team! These are awesome ways to give smaller DJ's a chance to play at fun parties. Great job :)

Hey all,

On the 20th of June, I was invited by Beton-T/Studio-T to play during their Ambient/Downtempo terrace session. I got to play a total of 2,5 hours, which was exciting, but long. However, I was fully relaxed after ;)

It rained during the first hour, but that only emphasized the ambient sounds. And it didn't stop the audience from staying!

Welcome to Cycles introducing Sklasi from Utrecht, Netherlands. This DJ is a personal friend of mine and a fellow crew member at Oefenmeesters. His style is versatile and explores different shades and forms of Techno. His style leans toward ambient Techno, with long transitions and no heavy drops, focussing instead on flow, texture, and subtle progression.
