"Anyone that knows me, knows that my main passion is music. I spend all day listening to music at work and my vinyl collection of 16k pieces greets me when I get home. I knew about Ghostly International before they contacted me in the early 2000’s and we would write off and on. They used to send me big packages of white labeled vinyl, it was decadent.

Late 2007 I got a call from Ghostly asking if I was up for designing a new single for Dabrye. It was a dream come true and I feel like I found a friend who really understood me. I have had the distinct privilege to design over 100 covers for Ghostly, and that is only the half of it.

When they asked me to do a compilation, I was all about it. I wanted to do three or more compilations because I wanted to segment it up into different sections (Ghostly, SMM and Spectral). It is impossible to reduce the entire label to 15 tracks. Ghostly is dynamic, they don’t fit one sound, genre or idea.

So I approached it as a mixtape of sorts. I tried to find a common thread that spoke to me and create a mood around that idea. Some of my favorite tracks are not on here. JDSY 'Horizon Line' makes my head spin. Choir of Young Believers 'Paralyse' takes me to another place. There are so many more.

What you are hearing some songs that have spoken to me over the years in a distinct way. I don’t feel like they are obvious choices but they all are nothing short of amazing. I hope this compilation helps you see a different side of one of the best labels to ever do it." - Michael Cina

After the long-awaited debut by ComixXx („The Great Escape“) on Sonar Kollektiv, we get another stunning single release with „Broken Connection“. Sung by Pete Josef this is one of many standout tracks of the 14 piece strong oeuvre.

The first remix is by Berlin producer Maurycy Zimmermann aka Mooryc. And he snatches right into his bag of tricks to pull out a bagpipe for the intro fanfare, or a vinyl crackling to lend the song some subtle nostalgia. It remains his very own secret though, where the hell he got that female voice from, that suddenly duets with Josef out of the blue. Anyway, the beat drags pantingly along the piano turning the rather cheerful original composition in next to no time into a bittersweet ballad.

Kalipo takes things not much less melancholic. The native Bavarian residing now in Berlin and known as a member of the electropunk outfit Frittenbude doesn't slows down the pace but uses subtly sprinkled synth chords lifting Josef's vocals through the clouds. A remix made for the wee hours of the morning after the party full of heartache and longing.
The third and last remix is done by Aanbreken. He also puts his full concentration on the vocals and builds his framework of slightly broken beats and distorted synths around them. The arrangement is the fine art of “tease & denial”.

A peach is a sweet and soft and good thing with a stone in the middle, and this is an album about being a person. Smartphones, analogue tape, valve microphones, computers, group games and a grand banquet were used to create this collection of songs, tunes and monologues, that use a series of contradictions to talk about being alive. 

Long-term collaborators John Ellis (piano) and Paddy Steer (percussion, bass, lapsteel, synth) join Angus Fairbairn (vocal, tenor sax) along with eleven other musicians and nearly a hundred other voices in presenting sounds likened to Ethiopian jazz and Japanese folk music. Scripts and vocal delivery evoke Ivor Cutler, Emo Philips and Leonard Cohen, for this combination of theatre, live-captured music, songs, humour and philosophy.

It is a unique collection, made by unusual means designed around the artistry and conveyance of its many contributors. Created over three years in London and Manchester, it’ll be celebrated in those two towns on the dates below, following its vinyl and digital release on Manchester label Debt Records, on 28th September 2015.

A composer, musician and performer, Alabaster DePlume (Angus Fairbairn) has toured northern Europe, appeared on UK national radio and developed theatre for Bram Stoker Festival in Dublin. His many combined arts projects are based around music, and personal inclusion. In this, his third album, he has employed as many voices as he can, in conveying a method of survival he’s been taught, he says, by everyone he’s met.

Hope grows naturally, like a

Karin Park Tiger Dreams Photek Remix

If you ever wondered what’d happen if two best friends who share a collective mission to not take life too seriously spent just as much time soaking up the muddy blues of Mississippi as they did the kosmisch experimentations of West Germany (the pair also play in Krautrock collective Datashock) then Pretty Lightning are your answer. Unsurprising, then, that as often as their sound is indeed full to the brim with crunch, swagger and feedback, they’re also just capable as easing off on that oft-abused accelerator and dealing in something more far hypnotic and drone-like.

The reverberating slow-burner, ‘Greyhound’, is exactly one such moment. Just like the video that comes with it, it’s the sonic equivalent of hitching a long motorcycle road you never want to end–only, as in said visuals, the landscape you’re cruising through happens to be somewhere weird, cartoonish and, true to form, psychedelic-as-hell. The band says of the single: “Greyhound is pure escapism - one fantasy of it, anyway. It’s probably our most pop-pleasing song so far too, even if that’s not the direction we’re generally heading into. If you think that sometimes it´s ok to treat yourself to a fantasy, why not take the imagination of an eternal ride and stick it in a 4 minute ‘pop-song’”
