Skool of Thought Breaks FM Mix July 2021

This was an important track for us, it was the first tune where Darrison realised his singing and song writing capabilities and the tune which inspired us to write the "Random Acts of Kindness" album. Good times, good vibes!

Skool of Thought at Breakfest Reunion 2025

The hugely talented Bonobo created 'Cirrus' a few years back and it has been a favourite track of mine since the first time I heard it. I have now created a more robust version for my bass heavy sets, so plug your sub in and let it roll out. Quite possibly the biggest remix I have ever made, this bass heavy rework was probably in the top three biggest breaks tune for 2003. Full props to Groove Armada for making such an incredible original.

Released on my Against The Grain label back in 2006, Ed Solo and I were honoured to be the first people to ever remix a Pendulum track. It gathered wide support from Stanton Warriors to DJ Food and went on to be one of the biggest tunes of the year.

10 years ago Ed Solo and Skool Of Thought released Random Acts of Kindness and this is the first track from the 10 Year Deluxe Edition (released 27 Oct 2017) - played exclusively on Friction's BBC Radio 1 show. 

Huge props to Darrison who done such an incredible job of the vocals on this track – in many ways this is his record and we salute you mate. Also respect to JFB who also made a significant contribution to this track – big up! We play the music for the people all around…

Heavyweight Breaks 2020 is a snapshot of the hottest bass fuelled breaks released over the past 12 months mixed by myself Skool of Thought.

Those of you who have been following me will know I released the first Heavyweight Breaks mix CD on SuperCharged back in 2002. The approach for that mix then is the same now - 10 extremely carefully selected tracks which showcase the very best of the scene. 

The trick for me has always been to select tracks that are bass-heavy without being tear-out and uplifting without being cheesy. 

Naturally, I would like to extend my huge thanks to the heavyweight of breaks  - the producers who featured in this mix.

I hope you enjoy the mix.

Skool of Thought on BBC Radio 1 - 2005

I recently found a mini disc of one of my early DJ sets (when I went under the name Phatt Lace Lloyd) recorded live at Carnage in St Albans (UK), a night I ran with Kid Ballistics and Beardo. It was only a small backroom of a pub but the atmosphere was amazing and the night was credited by DJ Mag for helping form the Nu Skool Breaks scene. The likes of Freq Nasty, BLIM, Bushwacka, Krafty Kuts and many more played some of their earliest Breaks sets here. Here's a little taster. Good times!

In 2001 Ambar in Perth opened it's doors and I am honoured to have been the first international DJ to have played there. I played Ambar many more times but this was a particularly memorable night. Enjoy the heavyweight breaks!
