Skran - Nuke The Site

Autumn has arrived, and it’s a time for change. With the new season comes a new signing to the iconic South East England drum and bass hub Murky Digital: emergent 21-year-old producer Dysfunction comes to the fore this October with their label debut, Beside_Self.

Having made a name for themselves in recent years with an array of self-released material ranging from drums to deep dubstep, the Aberystwyth and Oxford-based DJ has quickly drummed up acclaim for their SoundCloud drops, including the recently released free EP Pyramid Scheme. Currently zeroing in on jump-up and minimal stylings but by no means constrained by a particular subgenre, they bring a boundary-pushing ethos to their oeuvre, drawing on disparate influences across the wider D&B scene ranging from Alix Perez to Original Sin to Tantrum Desire.

Dysfunction’s Murky Digital debut, Beside_Self, is a suitably seismic introduction to this budding beatmaker. Commencing with eerie, delay-soaked plucks, opener “Proximity” bubbles to a searing climax as breakbeats muscle their way into play, peaking with a combination of jagged, innovatively crafted basslines and sudden vocal exclamations. “The Funk”, meanwhile, lives up to its name, utilising jazzy snippets of guitar before hurtling into turbulent, jump-up-infused crescendos dominated by skittish sub-bass. Title track “Beside_Self” is a deep, minimal affair, revelling in reverberating ambiances, while “Concrete Junglist” pairs resonant basslines with frantic percussion, showcasing yet another string to their bow. Last but not least is “Nightmare”, an eerie number which kicks off with moody chords, launching into shrieking drops befitting of the track’s title.

The Beside_Self EP is available exclusively via Juno Download and Spotify from 6 October, reaching a full range of digital service providers the following week on 13 October 2021.

Suspekt One is a drum and bass dj from Nottingham and also co-owner of Hooked Sounds ➡️ @hookedsounds 

Suspekt One has mainly played uni and house parties, but has got his first set coming up start of next year. He is currently learning production and is hoping to get a track out at some point next year. 

He is currently planning Hooked Sounds first couple of events/raves which are going to take place at the start of next year so watch this space 💥

If you’ve yet to hear of Guzi, now’s the time to prick up those ears, because his debut album is about to drop on Sub-Liminal Recordings and it’s nothing short of exceptional. If you like to indulge in the full spectrum dnb has to offer and marvel and audio-technical mastery then this is the release for you.

The album starts with the first single, ‘What To Do’ ft DJ Hybrid- and let me tell you it’s an absolute dancefloor destroyer, choppy breaks, futuristic synths and a classic sample executed with cutthroat precision. Starting on a high this self-titled body of work continues at the same breath-taking altitude throughout. As the album progresses, you’re invited to weave through each and every element of the fabric of the drum and bass genre, jungle, jump-up, dubstep and even flickers of juke can be heard. Guzi showcases his expertise, versatility and very clearly his respect, passion and love for all the musical melting-pot of sound and culture that make up drum and bass. It is not hyperbolic to say that each track effortlessly slips into its own separate sub-genre.

It’s no surprise that master craftsmanship pours out through each decibel of this record. Guzi is a professional mixing and mastering engineer who consistently perfects in excess of 100 tracks jungle and drum and bass tracks a month, and also works as a course creator and a music production tutor at Education & Bass. As if that didn’t leave him busy enough he heads up ‘Sub-Divison Recordings’- the sister label to ‘Sub-Liminal Recordings’ and a brand new jungle and breakbeat label ‘Section 63 Recordings’.

Formation Records is proud to present ‘Temple EP’. Compromised of 5 blistering tracks that are an essential part of every DJs arsenal. 

Kicking off the EP with the title track ‘Temple’, this is a deep and dark and stomper. 
With a promising introduction comprised mainly of lonely high hats and distant vocal chants, we are quickly reaching the first drop to be hit in the face with a blasting rolling bass. 

The second track, ‘Like No One Before’, is infused with soul through the slow and steady introduction. With the powerful drum section emerging into the drop, and a warping well produced bass there is a serious presence within ‘Like No One Before’. 

‘Slab’ is a track with real attitude. With the drop on this track comprised of a masterful drum beat that will be ringing in listeners ears and a pumping bass that adds the depth to the track. 

The penultimate track, ‘Blunt Edge’, is uniquely deep and clinical as Conrad Subs continues his production mastery, with another salacious drumbeat leading the charge with a naughty bass warping throughout.

As we come to the final track of the EP, Conrad Subs take you back to the 90’s with the jungle roller ‘Chow Down’. Filled with rapid breakbeats, heavily syncopated percussion, and deep basslines, this one is for the hard-core ravers.
