I am overjoyed to share this track with you - this song is the backbone for the whole album, and the solo theatre piece which it soundtracks. This is my anthem to dropping the shame of suffering and coming together in vulnerability. this feeling inspired me to share my experiences and talk about the challenges I’ve faced to create this #BREATHE community, all about raving, celebrating self expression and holding each other 🌈❤️

Sensual and slow-building, ‘Invisible’ is the first single from Surrender, the intoxicating debut album from genre-defying, recording-breaking beatboxer, producer and live-looper SK Shlomo, opening up for the first time about his struggle with depression. 

Richly-atmospheric, blending beatboxing with epic synths and samples and drawing influences from Massive Attack, James Blake and Radiohead, the album journeys through life’s darkest moments and celebrates new beginnings

Invisible is a slow building beast with brutal lyrics blending with beautiful electronic sounds and over 100 layers of haunting vocal harmonies inspired by his Middle-Eastern immigrant heritage.

The First Time - SK Shlomo (Simon Lyon  Remix)

Manchester based producer and Ableton Live certified production Jedi Simon Lyons has been on an incredible journey with his music production, working with big name fans from Happy Mondays and MC Tonn Piper (Andy C, Roni Size) to Jon Hopkins, Leon Vynehall, Rudimental and Bipolar Sunshine.

His banging ‘Sly Madchester’ remix of Welsh rising star Rachel K Collier’s ‘Poison’ caught the ears of award-winning beatboxer turned electronic singer-songwriter SK Shlomo who, after collaborating with Bjork, Ed Sheeran and Jarvis Cocker is now going solo. 

SK Shlomo  immediately asked Simon Lyon to remix his newest single ‘The First Time’. The resulting Simon Lyon remix is a rip-roaringly moving, mind-blowingly cinematic journey, darting from emotional film-score to ear-melting drum n bass breaks, retaining the intrigue with innovative half/double time interplay along the way.
 
“Building on Shlomo’s already strong vocal and melodic delivery, I used the teasing drum break as a catalyst  to push the tempo a little and enter Drum ‘n’ Bass territory. Diving deeper into the vocals I built on the subtle Eastern vibe and brought some of the vocal riffs into a different arena. I wanted to retain some of the originals more textural approach so I employed Cello and Harp to provide a contrast to the harder more forceful sounds. Hopefully  I managed to create a journey for the listener, highs and low’s whilst creating an air of intrigue.”

After collaborating with Ed Sheeran, Bjork and Damon Albarn, the record-breaking beatboxer SK Shlomo turns electronic singer-songwriter on his debut solo album Surrender, blending his innovative live-looping and breath-taking beatboxing with epic synths, crushingly honest lyrics and lush electronic layers. 
 
With support from BBC Introducing, iDJ Magazine and The Times, the self-produced album Surrender is released on 29 March 2019 with a special album launch party at East London’s Oslo Hackney.
 
‘The Future’ is the final single ahead of the full album release, an instantly gripping story of loss and hope. A tapestrey of delicately hypnotic synths contrast with the driving, pulsating drums, reminiscent of Massive Attack, or Kavinsky’s Nightcall from the soundtrack to Drive.
 
“This song is a super personal story, explaining to my own child about the loss of his unborn brother and keeping hope for the future.” he explains. “The whole album tackles emotional issues in song form and this song has had a long journey - it started out as a drum n bass beatbox track, but it never felt quite right. Eventually I tried halving the tempo but keeping the urgency in the rhythm and I’m so happy with the result.”

I've started talking openly online about my disability, despite the inevitable spike in 'unfollows', and here's a perfect example of ADHD in motion: I released a throwback rave tune about my ADHD as the 1st single from my upcoming 2nd album, but was at glastonbury on the day it came out and forgot to tell anyone. My ode to the lifesaving power of music, Are You Ready is the second single from my forthcoming BREATHE LP.

There's a real depth of meaning to the song for me: reconnecting to music literally saved my life when i hit a life-threatening mental health crisis.

But equally, it could just be seen as a lighthearted 90s throwback banger ✨

Several years ago, SK Shlomo (they/them) got sick. 10 years deep into a colourful career, they were a world-record holding beatboxer, a celebrated theatre maker and a well-respected collaborator with the likes of Björk, Gorillaz, Imogen Heap and Rudimental.

They had become the first ever World Looping Champion, brought Ed Sheeran onstage as their guest at Glastonbury, been the first non-classical Artist in Residence at London’s Southbank Centre, and even been the subject of an award-winning feature film.

But something had shifted. In the midst of a near suicidal depression, they stopped performing. Shlomo spent almost two years off the road, recovering what felt lost. A series of personal revelations changed the way that Shlomo viewed themselves and their work.

The result is BREATHE, an award-winning one-person show, alongside the upcoming second LP of the same name forming the show’s 90s rave soundtrack. BREATHE is more personal than any of their previous output, exploring themes they have never before shared in public about coming out as non-binary, being foreign, handling their disability, battling suicide and, ultimately, the healing power of rave.

Blending the energy of a festival with the storytelling of theatre in a distillation of their entire career, BREATHE opens with first single Wave, The Prodigy-esque ode to ADHD, and ends with an electric, neon-bright celebration, proving the power and joy in publicly being exactly who you are.
