Co-founder of Norway’s future-facing Ute crew, Ekkel (Teo Bachs) has a front-row seat in the cockpit on their psychedelic flavoured quest. From their woodland beginnings they’ve staked a claim to freedom through music and community, and expanded to include brick and mortar club nights and a self-titled label for the release of their magnetic and mysterious techno sounds. Forest-bath electronics that take stock of Scandinavia’s ambient tradition and cross-pollinate it with a measure of acid, trance and midnight sun. Teo’s own steadily rising number of productions (side project H25 included) has fleshed out Ute’s vision with a personal twist, and there’s another three scheduled for the fall. The past few years too have seen him hard at work exploring the possibilities of sound in a lonely cabin as part of Solar Alliance, collaborating with S.O.N.S on Korean label Junction Forest and producing many more unreleased tracks, some of which you’ll hear here first for a very special number. It’s a wormhole trip that marches headlong from the shadows, shimmering and physical beats that heave and swell, tribal breaks that flit from track to track and build a cathartic mood that harks back to Ute’s woodland roots. Tech House – often misunderstood and unfairly written off as commercial – takes centre stage in the upcoming Blitzcast by our good friend Sylwa, who has been influenced by its original, understated sound and approach, and now thrills with a soulful interpretation.

Blitzcast 028 comes courtesy of Sylwa – here’s what he has to share about the mix.

> This mix features tracks released exclusively between 1996 and 2005, with a strong leaning toward the sound pioneered by early UK tech house figures like Terry Francis, Eddie Richards, and the circle surrounding London’s Fabric club and Swag Records.
I aimed to create an obscure, moody atmosphere with long blends, moving through stripped-back, loop-heavy cuts, dubby stabs, and acid lines—gradually brightening into more melody-driven tracks toward the end. You’ll hear some crackles and slight mixing imperfections; I guess it's the unavoidable nature of mixing with vinyl. <

The rhythm, the groove and faith in simplicity. All of them are hallmarks of Skudge. Started as a duo in 2009, the project is now a solo effort (with live performance help from another individual). The Skudge universe has come a long way from the anonymous and humble beginnings to world-wide recognition through the labels Skudge Records, Skudge Presents and Skudge White.

Right from the start, the main output has been on Skudge’s own label. This resulted in a Berghain live set right after the first release of Skudge Records. 

A steady string of vinyl releases followed, with remix EP’s in conjunction of their own work. Their unique take on music also produced EP’s on Dekmantel and Indigo Area as well as remixes on a wide array of talented artists such as Donato Dozzy, Anthony „Shake“ Shakir, Instra:mental, Ben Sims, among others.

The fine sense of loops, detail and taste have reached people for almost a decade. Be it through their EP’s or albums, hardware focused live sets which has been performed at numerous clubs and events world-wide or by way of recognized labels and podcasts: one thing remains, which is that the Skudge artistry and label are here to stay.
