"Somewhere in a nameless forest, landlocked by mountains, lived the Child of Light. They spent their whole life in this forest, exploring the verdant leaves and admiring the fireflies. For years, they were satisfied with this peaceful, dangerless life among nature. But as they grew older, something began to change. The fireflies seemed to hardly glow the same anymore, and the spring leaves were decaying by the dozen. What once brought them such joy and happiness slowly began to lose its magic.

But one night, a bright beacon of light suddenly woke the Child from their sleep. Startled, they scrambled awake and rushed over to the source of the light…The beacon led the child to the most rugged of the mountains, an area that they had never explored before. Upon their arrival, they discovered a massive gap carved into the cliffside, with the shape of a heart engraved just above it. As they investigated closer, the Child also noticed several letters engraved just beneath the heart. They read out:

“THE CRYSTAL HEART LIES WITHIN

INFINITE WISDOM, CONTENTMENT AND WARMTH

SHALL BE BESTOWED UPON ITS BEARER

EMBRACE THE HEART AND CARRY OUR FLAME INTO YOUR WORLD”

The Child turned around and looked back at the safety of the forest one last time… 

They knew what they needed to do."

"After what seemed like hours in the tunnel, traces of violet light began to reflect off the icy crystals. As the Child trekked through the snowy caves, this light grew stronger and stronger until eventually, it was utterly blinding. Suddenly, the tunnel opened up into a new area: an expansive, volcanic cavern. Massive, crystallized pillars of pink and purple rock stood around the cave like giant monoliths. Scorching waves of heat lapped at the Child, and the hot air seared their previously frozen skin. However… over the volcanic ledges, the Crystal Heart came into view; its blue hue contrasting the purple inferno. With the end of their journey in sight, the Child leapt from crumbling edge to crumbling edge, determined to find what they had been chasing for so long..."

“The Child climbed onto the last platform, and approached the Crystal Heart slowly. Each footstep towards the gemstone echoed loudly through the cavern… Everything would finally be revealed to them… but the Child began to wonder - what did infinite wisdom and contentment entail? They closed their eyes and held the heart to their chest. It was slightly warm to the touch.

They waited a few moments, eyes still closed…

And waited..

Until suddenly, a jolt of light exploded from the heart - beautiful stars and the most colorful patterns began to fill up the cavern! It was unlike anything the Child had ever seen before. 

But soon, it began to fade.

And fade.

Until after a few moments, the heart emitted nothing at all.

The Child stood alone on the ledge, still holding the Crystal Heart to their chest. It was hollow, and so were they.”

“With no luck in their search, the Child kept moving through the crystal cave, until it began to close into a tunnel. The final echoes of light from the glowworms began to fade out - it seemed the next portion of the Child's journey would not be blessed by their light. In the next area, icy white crystals lined the walls, and the air was frigid and bleak. Snow absorbed all the sound in the cavern, except the crunch of the Child's footsteps and the thoughts racing through their head. 

The Child felt a sense of isolation - like they had stumbled into a place once filled with life, lost to an eternal winter. There was no contentment or warmth in this part of the cavern - simply ice and decay.  Their hope was beginning to fade out, and they pondered whether this Crystal Heart was meaningful at all… or even real. What if this was all for nothing - would they be tethered to their simple life in the forest forever?  Regardless, the Child pushed forward, alone with their thoughts and doubts…”
