English title for song is "Now or Never" and it tells about the Great Prussian uprising in 1260 - 1274, when the Prussian tribes almost succeeded in driving the Order of Teutonic Knights out of Prussia. However, due to the continuous influx of fresh manpower from Europe and many European leaders joining the conflict, the uprising was suppressed and the Prussians had to once again yield the Teutonic Order. Old German chronicles tells legend about the central pagan sacred place for all Baltic people, which was situated in Prussia at Romuve or Rickoyot. There stood a huge oak and besides that (or in his trunk) were seen idols of three main gods: Perkuns, Peckols (or Patollo) and Potrimpus. In this sanctuary also lived priests and priestesses (vaidelots) and the high priest Krive Krivaito himself. All most important pagan ceremonies and sacrifices were held there. More about it you will find in CD booklet.

In this song you can hear little bit of Prussian language as we used some Prussian/Lithuanian old folk song (thanks to Jonas Trinkūnas and Kūlgrinda) as main theme.

The song is based on actual events that took place more than 333 years ago in the Vidzeme region of Livonia (Latvia). In the 1600’s, the land of Livonia had gained the notoriety of the most werewolf-rich region of Europe. The curious case of Zaubes Thiess, the famous Livonian werewolf, has endured through centuries as one of the most enigmatic and captivating mysteries of the local lore, a story whose true nature remains unexplained to this day. Skyforger second single ✦Svētbirzs✦ (Sacred Grove) from upcoming album "Teikas" (Folktales).  Enter the world of forgotten times and ancient forests! 🌳

Since olden times, sacred groves have played a significant part in the religious tradition of the Baltic peoples.
A sacred grove was a wild, dense forest that served as nature's temple for worshipping pagan gods or commemorating deceased ancestors. As a rule, it was forbidden to cut trees, hunt, or even stroll through these places, as it might offend the deities. Numerous stories exist of trespassers who disregarded these prohibitions and soon experienced supernatural punishment, such as illness or an accident.
At specific times, sacred groves were used for rituals and various religious practices honoring gods and ancestors. Several sacred groves still remain in Latvia, with the Ķoniņciems Elku grove in Kuldīga municipality being the most well-known. For more info visit: www.skyforger.lv

Extraordinary Folk / Pagan / Black Metal band from Riga, Latvia, established in 1995. 

Skyforger has been forging their music in the smithy of the Thundergod since 1995.

For more than last two decades, the band has been fighting under the flag of Latvian Pagan Metal, an extreme blend of traditional Baltic Folk music and various Metal influences ranging from Norwegian inspired Black Metal through to 80s-rooted Heavy Metal. The band's unique combination of ancient and modern influence has given them a wide appeal throughout both the Metal and Folk scenes, and has brought great variety to their song writing over the course of the six Skyforger albums.

The first of these was unleashed from the forge in 1997. Titled 'Semigalls' Warchant', the demo tape told tales of the last free Pagan tribes of the Baltic peoples; and their struggles with Christian invaders throughout the thirteenth century.

These tales of ancient tribal Latvia and its Heathen tradition were to be expanded upon in 1998 with Skyforger's first full-length album, 'Kauja pie Saules' ('The Battle of Saule'). Later, in 2000, band followed with their third release, the First World War themed album 'Latvian Riflemen'.
  
Skyforger signed to the German label Folter Records and soon the world saw the release of their newest Pagan Metal masterpiece, - 'Thunderforge', which was a fine return to their old themes of ancestral culture and Heathen gods. The next album in line, recorded also in 2003, was the self-released 'Sword Song', - an album of purely acoustic Latvian Folk music and a long coming tribute to their ancient forefathers' heritage. In 2005 Folter Records released re-mastered demo album 'Semigalls' Warchant' on CD format, with additional EP 'Asinslauks'.

Skyforger spent next few years working on a conceptual album about the legendary Latvian fairytale hero, Kurbads. The album, similarly entitled 'Kurbads', was released worldwide via Metal Blade Records in 2010.

Throughout the years, band has been busy on festival stages all over Europe and Skyforger is well known for their non-compromising live performances. 

Skyforger released their latest album 'Old Prussia' on 6th of April, 2015, on Thunderforge Records. Right now band is actively working on new album, with approximate release date 2023/2024.
