Who better than DIAL stalwart Efdemin could wrap up the year on such a distinctly class-act type of note? Probably no one. He who’s become an absolute gem trader over the years through a string of epoch-making efforts, including the time-proof masterpiece that is “Decay” in 2014, drops by to grace us with a mesmeric Xmas tale by way of waving goodbye to 2022. Extruding elements of techno deepness out their usual cast to mingle them with that exploratory, jazz-inflected approach of his - subtly pairing the lingering beauty of stretched-out synths with that of free-flowing 4x4 grooves and haunting melodies, Efdemin entices us on a path of delectably focused and flavourful techno sensibility. An absolute pleasure and honour for us to round off 2022 in such good company.

Now in its 200th instalment, this Podcast has given voice to a diverse offering of global talents across the musical spectrum, from the democratic rhythms of zeitgeist appropriate techno and house through to more avant-garde synthwork.

This next guest has cast a large shadow over the technosphere, so large in fact, that no introduction could fully encompass the breadth of his achievements. But in brief: Ben Klock is a titan whose formative years were spent playing marathon mixes to the crowds at Berlin’s (then recently opened) Berghain. Off the back of his endurance sets and the club’s success he became a household name whose influence grew to be felt across the world, with a body of work that includes appearances at an exhaustive list of clubs and festivals, a number of hot releases on Ostgut Ton and an equally respected self-run label (Klockworks) to boot. On this second imprint, his own productions have repeatedly seen the light of day, alongside those from the likes of DVS1, Sterac, Stef Mendesidis and younger talents like Temudo and Vil & Cravo. The sound, ubiquitous as it is, will be familiar to anyone involved in the world of electronic music and there’s good reason for that: Klock’s deep and percussive work and ability to pull from a wide range of influences have earmarked him as a unique agent for the techno cause. Atmospheric and delivered with hammering force, Klock’s refined palette for rhythms is as relevant now as ever. Living, breathing, banging techno from an artist defining the highly-textured new frontier of the sound in 2024.

Lindsey Wang, AKA Polygonia, has an amorphous style you could call organic—or, better yet, harmonious. She interweaves unfamiliar elements with a mercurial touch. Wang can make something completely otherworldly sound totally, well, natural. It's made her a fixture everywhere from Munich's BLITZ to major festivals like Sustain-Release and Draaimolen.

Unsurprisingly, Wang is not one to be pinned down. Be it the sound design-anchored side project Lyder, her own label QEONE, or co-producing an album's worth of experimental percussion alongside jazz drummer Simon Popp, it's fair to say her personal output matches the feverish energy of her mixes. There's multidisciplinary, and then there's Wang: Poly-disciplinary, you might say.

Wang's entry into the RA Podcast series is no different, another stellar emphasis of her artistry. RA.955 is a voyage into wild variations of texture, rhythm and feeling, guided along by the principle of endless metamorphosis. Supple driving grooves meet crinkled surfaces, scuttling hi-hats meet chattering sonics, and good luck keeping hold of a consistent drum pattern for long. Behold a living organism raised by the club and the great outdoors in equal measure.

For our latest Bleep Mix instalment, Sandwell District come through with a hefty programming of dark rollers fulfilling that promise of reinvigorated purpose they mentioned before: “Having a good time”. And with a wealth of exclusive unheard material it’s hard to refute the mission statement. Dropping straight into the cavernous environs of an unreleased Regis side Frosty Jack’s, the selection rides a restrained line building tension through a number of Nastia Reigel tracks deployed with utmost precision before upping its stride with Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems and quickly landing first peak from The Wizard himself, with Jeff Mills' slamming ‘93 cut Step to Enchantment (Stringent). Taking in a track from their comrade Surgeon’s forthcoming album, as well as the simmering acid of their own tune Hidden, Sandwell District bring it back round full circle via two further unreleased reworks of heroes Meat Beat Manifesto providing a breakbeat singed rupture to close out the proceedings with the vocal snatches of MBM’s Helter Skelter summing it all up really: “It's in my brain now. This is it!”

Born and raised in the industrial suburbs of Turin, Stenny earned recognition in the last decade as both an accomplished producer and DJ. Exploring club culture and sound art, his journey has been one of constant research and reinvention, avoiding trends and the demands of contemporary music consumption while embracing the slower and more deliberate nature of his craft. 

Stenny’s work traverses the full electronic music landscape. Whether embracing new narrative structures and compositional experiments or consolidating the immediacy of a dancefloor-oriented project, each release marks a point of departure. Familiar yet constantly shifting, his sonic language remains identifiable within the experimental techno spectrum but expands beyond genre boundaries. 

Currently based in Munich, Stenny is an Ilian Tape affiliate and a Blitz Club resident. His artistic expression consists mostly of DJ sets and live performances. Fearless in his approach, he ventures through his broad range of musical influences with spontaneity and control, committed to creating an ever-unique and immersive experience.

Recorded in Berlin with a Xone 96, with Function’s signature sound design woven throughout, the mix bridges heavyweight classics and future-shaping material. Kicking off with Nastia Reigel’s massive new remix of his own Disaffected, it showcases three tracks from her upcoming debut album Identity (out September 26 on Infrastructure).

The selection runs wide: from Regis, Rødhâd, LSD, Nørbak, Nastia Reigel, Ignez, Rene Wise, Silent Servant, Alarico and UFO95 to unreleased gems by Filippo Scorcucchi - alongside Function’s own productions, edits and textures. Slam (aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle) are a tour de force on the global techno circuit. Their unique, six deck, back-to-back DJ performances have seen the duo play leading clubs and festivals across the world. They are renowned for both their experience and their powerful, contemporary sound. 

They are co-owners of Glasgow's Riverside Festival, and also host the legendary Maximum Pressure warehouse parties, which showcase the best emerging local talent alongside some of the most established names in international techno.

Their iconic Soma Records label boasts in excess of 600 releases, hosting Mcmillan and Meikle's own productions and many of today's most cutting-edge techno artists.

The last few years have seen some of the duo's most prolific studio output as they continue to innovate and keep things moving forward, most recently with the release of their experimental full length record Athenæum 101. In addition, Slam have also remixed tracks from the likes of Planetary Assault Systems, Clouds, Dax J, Damon Wild, Richie Hawtin, and Truncate, to name just a few. 

Slam also host one of Techno's most respected weekly podcasts, Slam Radio, which has now surpassed over 400 episodes. The show allows the duo to demonstrate their conviction to creating and promoting music and vibes that provide an antidote to the mainstream by inviting fellow artists from the vibrant Techno scene, from obscure names to current trailblazers.
