A true legend of the scene, Gary has been influencing techno with his signature sound since his emergence in 2007. With a career shaped by dedication to his craft, he’s earned deep respect from peers and dancers alike - and has stayed true to his roots every step of the way. Known for his unmistakable sound and a catalog that includes releases on Soma, Mutual Rytm and his own label BEK Audio, his music carries weight, but always with a focus on groove and movement.

For this mix, Gary invites us into his creative world with a selection made up almost entirely of unreleased personal material (some of it might be landing sooner than you think - so keep those ears open!)👂. A raw, rolling journey that reflects how he approaches DJing: direct, honest, and flowing from start to finish. Recorded simply on an A&H Xone 92 and three CDJ2000 Nexus II, it’s less about dramatic peaks but more about sustained energy - staying in the zone and letting the rhythm speak.

Our new SPND20 Mixtape comes from none other than the mighty @official-mr-g. 📼

If you know, you know: Mr. G is one of dance music’s true originals. From the early days in the legendary KCC crew and his influential work as half of The Advent, to decades of solo output under his own name, Colin McBean has never strayed from his roots. With releases on Rekids, Moods ‘n’ Grooves, Defected, and his own long-running Phoenix G imprint, his raw, bass-heavy electronic-tech-funk sound has moved floors and minds all over the world.

Now, for one of his rare mixtape appearances, we’re honored to share this special vinyl-only piece from his archive.

Recorded on two Technics 1210's and a Rane MP2015 mixer and mixed down to CD with added weight, the mix had been sleeping for years until Mr. G pressed play and surprised even himself. It’s meditative, deep, and packed with the personality you only get when the machines are running hot. It captures the raw energy, honesty, and unmistakable feel that only Mr. G can deliver: just pure groove, and even a cheeky cable cut halfway through that adds to the charm.

It’s not often he shares this side, so we’re grateful he let us dig it out. For us, it’s a perfect snapshot of where he comes from and what he still brings to the table today. A true original.

SPND20 Mixtape by Mr. G

This is one of my most-requested live recordings in a while! For 4 days at Fusion, ~80,000 people grow a tail and run free in the German forest. It’s what happens when uncompromising art collides with anti-capitalistic freedom. I was invited to play on Saturday night from 2:30am-4:30am on Fusions biggest stage, Turmbühne. Soundtracked by heavy, intense psychedelia, this is a story of moving everybody from the darkest hour straight into sunrise. I wanted to push people’s limits, but I also wanted it to be fun. Thank you to those still standing and especially to the Fusion crew.

Bassiani Podcast 272 brings together two techno heavy-hitters for a three-hour bout of heady, rolling grooves. In one corner comes Georgian mainstay and grassroots agitator NDRX, a formative member of Tbilisi's techno contingent. His early efforts in expanding the city's nightlife offerings helped drive radical change, and shaped the decades since. His mission further translated into the founding of Stare at DJ (2012), and 11th Floor (2015). Both are vehicles for the gathering and promotion of local talent without which, Georgia today would look much different. In the other corner comes Dustin Zahn, a midwestern champion for tribal rhythms and pulsating hypnotism. Heavily armed with a flurry of references including the brain-melting IDM of the late 90s and iconoclastic beats, Dustin founded Enemy Records in 2004. In recent years, he has made appearances on labels like Blueprint, Token, and Rekids. He also hosts the Trainwrecks Podcast, an outlet for intimate face-to-face chats with industry peers. This storied duo are a menacing match, a b2b pairing that manifests the adrenaline-fueled techno native to both their sounds and whips up a sum greater than both its parts. This latest number is a bout of fevered techno havoc devised by two sonic confrères, an auditory onslaught of hammering loops recorded live at Bassiani's season closing night.

One of techno’s true underground heroes, Function steps in with a mix that captures the essence of his club sound: deep, dark, hypnotic and intensely layered. Cerebral yet physical, this set distills over 30 years of experience into a rolling trip that’s as uncompromising as it is immersive.

Recorded in Berlin with a Xone 96, with Function’s signature sound design woven throughout, the mix bridges heavyweight classics and future-shaping material. Kicking off with Nastia Reigel’s massive new remix of his own Disaffected, it showcases three tracks from her upcoming debut album Identity (out September 26 on Infrastructure).

The selection runs wide: from Regis, Rødhâd, LSD, Nørbak, Nastia Reigel, Ignez, Rene Wise, Silent Servant, Alarico and UFO95 to unreleased gems by Filippo Scorcucchi - alongside Function’s own productions, edits and textures. The result is a hypnotic, high-pressure session built for the club’s inner core, designed for maximum immersion and intensity.

A rare insight into the craft of one of techno’s most enduring innovators. Expect a journey that tunnels deep, bends time, and refuses to let go. 🖤

SPND20 Mixtape by Function

Yax is a techno DJ based in Adelaide, Australia, with a decade of experience behind the decks. His sound draws inspiration from the deep, groovy, hypnotic techno of the '90s and early '00s, fused with a contemporary edge. Influenced by artists like DVS1, Donato Dozzy, and Jeff Mills, Yax crafts sets that emphasize tension, groove, and long-form storytelling.
In 2021, he launched Yax Invites — a podcast dedicated to showcasing underground techno talent from around the world. Now surpassing 200 episodes, the series laid the foundation for him to begin promoting his own events: starting with an outdoor rave in 2023, followed by a string of techno nights called Paranoia at Sugar Nightclub. Notable international guests have included Decoder (US) and Carmen Electro (DE).

Hurdslenk, aka Rich Griffin, was first introduced to electronic music in the late ’90s and early 2000s. As an avid clubber, he had the opportunity to experience some of the UK’s most iconic techno institutions.

In 2017, he began a journey into music production. Drawing from his personal influences and adopting a hardware-focused approach, he has developed a distinctive sound—marked by distorted percussion, gritty textures, and relentless rhythms.

His work has since been released on respected labels including Key Vinyl, Hardgroove, Out of Place, Frenzy, Vault Records, and V32.

Slam (aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle) are a tour de force on the global techno circuit. Their unique, six deck, back-to-back DJ performances have seen the duo play leading clubs and festivals across the world. They are renowned for both their experience and their powerful, contemporary sound. 

They are co-owners of Glasgow's Riverside Festival, and also host the legendary Maximum Pressure warehouse parties, which showcase the best emerging local talent alongside some of the most established names in international techno.

Their iconic Soma Records label boasts in excess of 600 releases, hosting Mcmillan and Meikle's own productions and many of today's most cutting-edge techno artists.

The last few years have seen some of the duo's most prolific studio output as they continue to innovate and keep things moving forward, most recently with the release of their experimental full length record Athenæum 101. In addition, Slam have also remixed tracks from the likes of Planetary Assault Systems, Clouds, Dax J, Damon Wild, Richie Hawtin, and Truncate, to name just a few. 

Slam also host one of Techno's most respected weekly podcasts, Slam Radio, which has now surpassed over 400 episodes. The show allows the duo to demonstrate their conviction to creating and promoting music and vibes that provide an antidote to the mainstream by inviting fellow artists from the vibrant Techno scene, from obscure names to current trailblazers.
