After 2 years of abstinence I've decided to finally do a song again.
I'm currently playing Mischief Makers and wondered how this song would sound on the Amiga.
As the song is quite complex, I've grabbed the MIDI data and the samples from the ROM via N64SoundBankTool.
Then I've carefully refined the note data to fit into 4 channels.
This is the result and I think It sounds pretty good.

This was done on Renoise and then converted using xrns2mod and later fine tuned using OpenMPT

Mischief Makers - Hurry! - ProTracker Reconstruction (128 BPM, A1200)

A cover of a game called AVGN Adventures.

This one stands out as I haven't used any midi file or sheet to learn the song as the game is pretty much still new and it takes time until someone is arranging it. So I had to learn it by ear and the result satisfied me. Also this time I tried to record multiple performances to mix and cut them together which is inspired here by Smooth McGroove.

AVGN Adventures was developed by FreakZone Games.

AVGN Adventures - Laughin' Jokin' Numbnuts - Keyboard Cover

I really liked that stage and this music. It was so perfectly unfitting and crazy. If you haven't played Blast Corps yet, you have to give it a try. It was my first game for the Nintendo 64 and is one of my favourites.

This song was composed by Graeme Norgate.

Blast Corps - Orion Plaza - Keyboard Cover

I was familiar with the Amiga version of this game a very long time. That a C64 version exists is something i noticed by accident through linked videos on YouTube. After playing this version of this game for the first time I noticed the gameplay was a little bit different and the controls are very stiff and sluggish. The soundtrack on the other hand has nothing in common with the one I know from the Amiga. This song here is played during the ice levels and for myself one of the best tracks of this game. Enjoy!

P. P. Hammer (C64) - Ice/Rome Theme - Keyboard Cover

This is one of the games I played as a child on my Amiga 500. The first 20 levels are pretty funny. But quite after that the game gets boring (and repetitive) and pretty difficult! I've never managed to complete it. This time I used no synth at all as the harpsichord and a panflute are the main instruments in the original song. I think these instruments of my keyboard do a pretty good job imitating them.

P. P. Hammer (Amiga) - Castle Theme - Keyboard Cover

For me Super Turrican 2 was a really mixed bag. The atmosphere, music style and gameplay was slightly changed compared to all the other Turrican games. This time it's more linear and the music is most of the time post apocalyptic. It's a disaster. Wormland is played in Stage 1-4 and stands out as this is one of the few songs in it following the previous formula.... It's sad but this song is the best this game has to offer.

Super Turrican 2 - Wormland - Keyboard Cover

Just a small song in the meantime. I could play this one for a long time and I tried to include it in a medley or something as it is rather short. But as I haven't found a nice place for it for months.......

Composed by the almighty Chris Hülsbeck. This song is used for Turrican 3 and Mega Turrican as level 3-2 music. It's also in Super Turrican with a slight modification at the beginning in level 3-1 if i'm not wrong. First I wanted top play the latter. But as I couldn't find the notes I had to go with the Amiga version. The notes were extracted using the TFMX editor.

Turrican 3 - Metal Scrap Yard - Keyboard Cover

I have to admit that the infamous SmoothMcGroove brought this game into my life. He uploaded an acapella version of this song and I didn't knew this game before. I did knew the Objection meme but not the game itself. After listening to the song I thought to give it a try by playing the Wii version. And I can say this game is pretty much outstanding. You can't play it for hours but the story, the loveable characters and the music wants you to return to the world of Phoenix Wright anytime.
This song is played whenever a witness is "cornered" and the case is about to be solved.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Cornered - Keyboard Cover

Phoenix Wright? Again, you may ask. Why yes :-D! After playing the first one I continued. You could say a lot bad things about CAPCOM but the soundtracks of most oft their games are just diamonds. No exception with the Ace Attorney franchise. This music is played during a Cross Examination in case the witness is under pressure.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations - Questioning ~ Allegro 2004 - Keyboard Cover

I have to admit I only played Takatis once and completed it on that day. It's an average shoot'em up in space and I wanted to play it as it was also developed by Poke 53280, a team which developed the amazing "Hurrican". The outstanding soundtrack was composed by the musical genius Jörg Winterstein alias Eiswuxe and in my opinion one possible man to step into the footprints of Mr. Hülsbeck.

This song is a rather difficult to play for me. High BPM and a rather fast refrain took some time to learn. And even after training it seems to be only possible to play the melody with both hands which i try to avoid normally.

Takatis - Endboss Theme - Keyboard Cover

There was an interview of Chris Hülsbeck I've found last month by accident. He said that there was this budget game which they made because they needed money made very quick. Quick .... silver.... duuh. It kinda reminded me of Turrican and so I had to play it. The ingame soundtrack consists of 3 different scores which also greatly fit Hülsbecks type of melodies. This is the first levels music and I just couldn't get it out of my head.

The game makes excessive use of characters stolen from other games. I don't think something like this would be legal today.

The Adventures of Quik and Silva - Level 1 - Keyboard Cover

I love this game. And who could blame me for that?
The soundtrack is a collection of various gems and I decided to pick one of the diamonds. While Simian Acres is a little bit more popular than this one here I decided that Cromlech Court is easier to archive with my current skill level of arranging and reverse engineering by ear.

Like with my SM64 cover I tried to use as much samples as possible from the real game. But it didn't work this time as Mr. Norgate seems to have made some excellent usage of real time calculated reverb. It's the only explanation I have as some of the instruments of this song were not existent in the ROM.

So this time I couldn't rely on that and I created my own instruments to fix that issue. Either by simply adding reverb to every sample or by mixing together multiple samples into one. The "Pattern to Sample" tool of OpenMPT has proven to be very useful here to generate chord samples from simple ones.

I'm especially proud of using the '"Sample Offset (9xx)" command in this one to play multiple prerecorded chords inside one sample to save sample numbers as the ProTracker limit of 32 samples capped me a bit.

In general I have to say that 4 channels limited my creativity in this one. The song itself is a massive blob of polyphony and couldn't be recreated with the Amigas limited audio capabilities.

This piece of music was recorded from a real Amiga 1200.

Blast Corps - Cromlech Court (Thunderfist) - ProTracker Medley

In the last days I've discovered that the original version of this song has mixing issues when listened on bigger speakers. After testing on some stereos this version seems to work better.
Don't expect any differences with Headphones that have emphasis on Treble.

O.K. - Okay! 2018.2 - Mixed Media Edit - Reinterpretation [119]

"Okay!" was quite one of the most unusual songs back then. I kinda liked the idea and the vibe the "Mixed Media Edit" of the original. The backside of the vinyl record also had an alternative version which was mostly instrumental.
This is why I - of course - also will provide an additional pure instrumental version of my Interpretation.

This movie was amazing and ahead of it's time. The theme during the intro sequence gave me chills. As I wanted to learn some FM Synthesis using Efemme und ZynAddSubFx it was the perfect opportunity to give this song a Slamy touch.

Theme of "Escape from Yew York" - Interpretation [88]

Freedom Planet is quite one of the best Sonic style games I've ever played. The music is quite catchy most of the times and reminds me of a mix between Sonic 3 and Mega Man X4.

The minor boss theme is a very energetic tune so I've decided to cover it to improve my ZynAddSubFx skills.

Freedom Planet - MEANIE Boss! - Eurobeat Interpretation V1.1 [143]

A few weeks ago I've checked out the tool xrns2mod which allows converting Renoise songs into ProTracker modules.
Sadly it didn't work very well. Especially under Linux. Also converted instruments were out of tune.
As the code is open source I've decided to fix it, improve sound quality and usability.

As I needed a song for testing purposes I've used my last Renoise song.
This song doesn't use any samples from common ProTracker sample collections. Every Pad and Lead was generated from the Renoise instruments I've previously created using ZynAddSubFx.
Renoise is capable of rendering VST plugins to samples while xrns2mod on the other hand can convert samples via high quality sinc interpolation into Amiga samples.

For this video I've decided to not only record the Audio from my Amiga 1200 but also record the video using a camera to capture a nostalgic feel based on the way how a Commodore 1084 displays its picture.
Previously I've used the video from UAE or a cheap USB grabber with extremly bad quality.

Freedom Planet - MEANIE Boss! - ProTracker Cover (143 BPM)

This is a medley of a very loose interpretation of "Air Beginning of the History", "Challenger 1985" and "Free Flyer". There is also a short part that I've composed myself.

This song is a little bit different from the last ones. I've spent about 4 weeks inside a rehabilitation facility and thus was unable to do music with my midi keyboard. But I was kinda lucky that I got my old laptop with me which just had barely enough CPU power to run Renoise without sound hickups. After therapy lessons I've spent some time in a garden and punched and clicked this song together just from memory as stage 1 and 4 are probably one of my most favourite songs from the Game gradius.
These songs were extremly upbeat and happy and thus exactly what I needed at the moment.

Gradius - A small ProTracker Medley (140 BPM, A1200)

Stardust was one of the Amiga games I've experienced very late. It featured "Asteroids"-like gameplay and pseudo 3D bonus stages.
I've found the 4th warp stage of the original Stardust game very memorable as the background is rotating and the music is very upbeat.
The game doesn't give any hints about the name of this song but the game files suggest "Umpitunneli HC".

I had this one lying around for 2 months or so but I kinda forgot to upload it as I thought I could improve it in a way and I had a small addiction with Final Fantasy 9 and 7 on the Switch. ;-)
Yesterday I've decided to fiddle around a little bit more and then just upload it.

The Man with the Machine Gun - Renoise Cover

I'm just your average computer science nerd which seems to have an interest in video game music from the 16 bit era. At some point in time I tried to play them using a keyboard for persoal joy. After noticing that there is a common interest on YouTube of watching other people playing an instrument I also tried the same concept. Now and then you will see some videos on my channel in which I play some of the music that I heard and liked during my gaming sessions.
I've used a Casio CTK-810 and a Hohner Viterbi as physical instruments.

But at the moment my interest shifts more to computer sequenced music as producing multi track sampled keyboard music was kinda tedious sometimes. Especially when the notes are very fast and inhuman to play.
