This is a bold claim, but it is a totally fair comment given the mark that both Enzo and his brainchild have had on today’s current tech house sound. What is even more impressive is that it didn't seem so long ago we were discussing FUSE turning 10, now another landmark is on the horizon and even after 15 years there is no slowing down. It is impossible to discuss Enzo without heaping praise on FUSE, but there is much more to this unassuming raver than just his clubbing brand. The spoken text comes from a two-page poem that I’ve wanted to use for a long time. Originally, it was written in Danish. It describes the dilemma I’ve always struggled with: managing an insanely creative brain while trying to connect with other creative people. Falling in love with their unique personalities—falling in love with the artist, and falling in love with creativity itself—and then, when relationships and relationship-related thoughts start to appear, a huge conflict arises within me.

I know the trach needs a better production! 

I love to dance, and I love to play with patterns and sound design. I’m not trying to produce something specific—just whatever I feel drawn to. 

I once embraced the traveling lifestyle as a member of Beat Bizarre and later Behind Blue Eyes. With Beat Bizarre we released four albums, and with Behind Blue Eyes two albums—most of them on Iboga Records between 1999 and 2006. Those years were filled with creativity, connection, and exploration, and they became an important part of the foundation for the music I create today.

Now i make music solo for fun and also wriote and make art of recyled trash. .

Clashes that float out and touch:
They are two stars colliding for the first time, lying next to each other for billions of years. Particles, stardust, and undefined dark matter tumble like children in a great chaos of unpredictability. Between long conversations about projects and life, the sun rises and sets for days. He hides negativity. The feeling of being wrong rises within him. In captivity between gazes, there are no wrong thoughts or too much. It is explosions of thoughts about hearts, kisses, and love. Before they know it, love and words sneak out of his curly and crooked pomade-framed mouth. Seconds feel like hours, and in every millisecond thereafter. 

The magic disappears at the same pace as words become sentences. They talk about the creative process, develop ideas, their connection, muse magical moments out of hesitant sentences. We do not know each other. He lifts his chin and meets her gaze slowly. He understands he has once again let words crush the moment and blind creativity. Time is rolled back, words taken back. And in a split second, the magic is gone

Joy Orbsion is someone we have a long and fruitful relationship with here at Dekmantel. He is, and always has been, a pure embodiment of UK dance music. His sound is steeped in English musical history (often explicitly in the form of sampled monologues) but also very much makes a new history of its own. He’s had countless underground hits from his definitive post-dubstep breakthrough ‘Hyph Mngo’ to his peak time tech tools with Boddika, and each one marks a mini reinvention of his style. What ties them all together, though, is O’Grady’s unique penchant for blending garage, bass, funky, house, techno and old school jungle into his own fresh concoctions. 

The two hour podcast he has served up here -as a perfect warm up to our festival this weekend- is split into two parts. Says the artist himself, “the first half is basically a way of showcasing producers that are doing great things at the moment and is completely made up of new, unreleased music, and the second half is basically winding things down with a load of stuff from my record collection. A come down, of sorts.” Starting with a spoken word snippet from his jungle playing uncle Ray Keith, the mix is initially atmospheric and moody, with sleek and stripped back drums and smeared synths making for a heady and intimate mood. After picking up through skewed bass patterns and skeletal techno, the second half seduces with elegiac rhythms, jazz selections and spoken word tracks as well as delicious soul sounds, reggae and stoned broken beat.  The results show exactly where Orbison is at musically, as well as offering an insight into where he has come from.
