Emerging from the vibrant Berlin music scene, Slate Blue, the brainchild of Dr. Stef Huber and Dr. Hardy Smieszek, announces the release of their debut single Crossroads — the first track from their forthcoming album The Fragile Order. The single will be available on all major streaming platforms starting June 27th, 2025.

Blending nostalgia with modern innovation, Crossroads delivers a fresh and energetic take on synth-pop, drawing influence from legendary acts like Depeche Mode and the dark synth wave of the 80s. The song encapsulates the emotional weight of life-altering decisions, inspired by the timeless words of Robert Frost: "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by,  and that has made all the difference."

Produced in their intimate Berlin studio next door Smieszek and Huber overcame creative challenges to bring Crossroads to life. Drawing inspiration from eclectic sources, including images of Gandalf, a husky with clenched teeth and Dave Gahan, the duo crafted a track that features lush synths, punchy drums, deep basslines, and Stef Huber’s captivating vocals. The result is a melodic, dynamic, and emotionally charged sonic experience that resonates with listeners navigating their own crossroads.

"We make music because we have to — it’s an inner urge. It helps us understand ourselves and feel more human," says the band. The release marks a significant milestone for Slate Blue as they embark on their debut album journey.
