The writing process for this sonata began while I was in Tokyo last summer. I wanted to musically describe the joy I felt going to Japan. This piece is inspired by and dedicated to my favorite composer & violinist, Masashi Hamauzu & Hijiri Kuwano whom I had the honor to meet in Yokohama. Although its form is Sonata-Allegro, I extended it's regulations in order to fit external musical ideas from works by Hamauzu. It was performed at my Senior Composition Recital at the Oakwood University Peters Hall Auditorium.
