The second part of the „Diorama“ remixes offers again some of the finest producers around. Starting with Kollektiv Turmstrasse! What kicks off as a Chez Damier groove makes the transition into a loose dub monster. Collecting traces of the original sound and dispersing them with magic movements we see why Kollektiv Turmstrasse are a top act. Shifting the attention from the front to the far back from the obvious to the abstract... Turmstrasse create that parallel groove on top of the groove which seems to tighten up with every minute. Fine particles of sounds are sprayed onto the relentless groove and make it a real crowd pleaser.

German artist Reboot is back on his home label with another fantastic EP, just before he mixes the upcoming Amsterdam Gets Physical album. 

Reboot’s innovative tech house has landed on Get Physical since 2016 in the form of two Eps and one excellent full length. Before that he amassed a fine discography of expertly designed, infectious grooves on labels like Cadenza, Defected and Cocoon. A real master of rhythm and percussion, Reboot’s sound is always subtly evolving and this new four-tracker is another fine case in point. 

Opening the account is the shadowy ‘Findel’, a long and spellbinding track with dark synths and intricate percussive lines. It’s alien and abstract and keeps the pressure up for ten full minutes. Then comes the more uplifting, subtly transcendental ‘Endis’, with celestial chords bringing real emotion to Reboot’s tightly woven rhythms as the rubbery drums continue to up the ante throughout. 

Showing yet another side is the excellent ‘Allout’, with its frazzled synths and involving drum loops all working to lock you into the groove and trip you out with weird effects and sound designs. Last of all is the soulful house of ‘Make Up’, which is warm, deep and blissful as it encourages you to cast your mind free and get lost in the distant vocals and lush, dreamy chords. 

This is a versatile and vital EP from one of dance music’s real driving forces.

Following on from his acclaimed remix of Dubfire featuring Carl Craig, Berlin-based Tibi Dabo returns to Crosstown Rebels with Disbelieve. It marks the first of three EP’s to be released on Damian's label this year, ahead of a much-anticipated debut album in October.

The EP begins with the rolling sounds of Disbelieve. Chugging along with a gently changing bassline, the lead synth reverberates alongside whispering hats and wonderfully emotive keys, before Tibi Dabo showcases his heavier side with Hire The Birds. Beginning with a pummelling kick, we are soon introduced to a mysteriously echoing vocal that winds into a melodic, celestial-like drop. Dj Balduin rounds off the release with a subtle, yet similarly hard-edged rendition of the second track. Up-tempo and incredibly danceable, synths shimmer alongside pumping drums and ethereal, bell-like chimes.

No stranger to Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels, young Max Guardans AKA Tibi Dabo has carved out a sound that is wise beyond his years. At just twenty-three the Barcelona native has already remixed Damian himself, on last year’s Diamond In The Dark re-release, a testament to his skill and dexterity as a producer, whilst his previous full-length productions on Crosstown showcase the breadth of his ever growing sound. Dj Balduin has already made a significant impact in the electronic music scene, with an album already under his belt as well as a debut release last year on leading melodic techno label Kompakt.

Jakub Fidos, AKA Subjoi, has meticulously honed his music over the last four years, crafting sounds that elevate the club-centered, four-on-the-floor schema to more ethereal heights. On any given track, his production traverses Garage-inspired breaks, sub-shattering Chicago basslines and glittering vocal hits. But regardless of motif, what truly defines Subjoi’s music is its impact--even the gentlest of tracks come knocking heartily on both mind and body.

His latest offering, In Absentia, is a timely reminder that house music is above all else supposed to move us. “High Street,” “Without You” and “I Say” offer up three unique yet complementary vignettes of contemplative house without sacrificing any of the dancefloor-ready pulse. Apparel Music continue their noble quest to nourish our ears and souls with their latest offering, KX9000's 'Plaisance Food EP'. Hot on the heels of label boss Kisk's excellent and suitably titled 'Jazzyness' album, here they continue to offer a glimpse of life through their organic house-tinted lens – serving up a selection of tunes that are as suited to nourishing the soul as moving one's feet.

Though London-based, the Apparel crew have been busily scouting for talent via the French underground, understandably so considering what fertile ground this has long proven itself to be. This time out, they present work from DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist, KX9000, following on from his previous releases on labels including Pont Neuf and Better Listen. The result is a warm and varied EP of cuts which combine cleverly-crafted musicianship with an aptitude for groove, and just enough deviance to satisfy grubby sensibilities.

The low-slung feel of opening track 'Millenium Civic' is a gentle intro to proceedings. Emotive chords evolve under delicate top-lines as synth stabs and motifs glide in and out to create a lucid dream state. 'Unusual Lines' is one of the highlights, combining atmospheric chords, an urgent tempo, and – most importantly – a bastard acid line to full heads-down dance effect. Vocal chops, discrete percussion and hidden layers add energy and mystery in equal measure, and the purposeful spoken word sample completes the sonic landscape. Paul Cut's remix of 'Unusual Lines' endows the music with something of a classic US deep house feel, dare I say shades of Boo Williams or Glenn Underground here as the sub-bass powers over snappy beats and jazzy vibes solos.

I've opted to play you Ground Plane Aerial's remix of 'Millenium Civic'. While locked down there has understandably been a tendency to gravitate toward gentle tempos and horizontal sonic-soothing, so after pushing play on this one the allegro rhythm jumped out at me like some kind of charging disco rhinoceros. Utilising the original instrumentation while beefing things up quite considerably, GPA's version is effectively dance-floor dynamite. The well-programmed drums fills and drops give the track a manic live feel, while the dramatic arrangement and musical flourishes add fuel to the fire. The roof is well and truly off when the freaky lead synths eventually pop in, leading to uniform fist-pumping and pogo dancing.*

* I can certify this with more than a degree of certainty, the clubs are (for now) open in these ends, and both the 'Millenium Civic' remix and 'Unusual Lines' have been thoroughly road-tested and Cosmic Tiger approved.
