Welcome back to another monthly journey into the history of music. Soundcast number three welcomes a genre which had its heyday from the mid 80s to mid 90s especially in America. Miami Bass, booty bass or dirty electro rap reflected the language of the streets with its early hip hop roots giving MCs a tougher electro beat to focus their conscious lyrics over. The breakdance phase of the 80s allowed artists the chance to experiment more with production techniques and not just samples and some of these early songs really stood out from the rest. Hip hop acts such as Sir-Mix-Alot, Party Rock Crew and Rodney O all had electro focused arrangements and groups such as Mantronix, Dynamix II and Maggotron Crushing Crew all had massive success in creating the earliest examples of electro which all had a major focus on bass.

Throughout this podcast i start with the mid and late 80s hip hop and electro influences that diverged into more booty shaking and quicker tempo compositions in the 90s. You'll hear boogie (Man Parrish and Jennette) electro (Dynamix II and The Persuader) and rap orientated miami bass classics (2 Live Crew, Gucci Crew, Quad City DJs and Ghost Town DJs).
