'Hue Rain' is the first track of my new album: Field Recordings – 06 Vietnam

Recorded in Vietnam on March 2024 and composed in Rotterdam, it blends field recordings of rituals and daily life with drones and layered textures derived from them. 
This new episode continues my journey of exploring places through sound.

"I’ve always been sensitive to my surroundings and the world is in a very vulnerable place at the moment. I felt I needed to express my true emotions through something a little bit different to a conventional DJ mix and also that just writing one song was not going to be enough.

It was almost like composing a score, the only difference being that the pictures were only in my head. My ambition was for the music to evoke a visual response in the listener rather than just an emotional one. To do that I took some audio snippets of real life current affairs scenarios that really struck a chord in me and then used my DJ instinct to think of a track/musical piece that would fit well to that particular scene. Sometimes when I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted I added my own music over existing music or did my own sound design to create my own sound effects and also wrote some original pieces in the moment. It was very important to me to create ultimate flow and I felt this could only have been achieved without having any beats supporting the music. I also didn't want to make it eclectic nor constant as I felt that would disrupt the listener’s focus emotionally. There is a strong dynamic range throughout similar to classical music and also some parts that are almost meditative and then in contrast some more intense moments.

Born in Los Angeles, now venturing Berlin and Europe’s scene won our hearts with his deep and hypnotizing grooves. His wide sound variety expands into deep explorations of the tones, forms with soulful elements and complex patterns making sure to move the peak-time dancefloor to the max. His hardwork and tirelessly spent hours in studio bagged him a lovely catalogue of labels such as Lessizmore and Body Parts. Being a resident at Berlin’s Club der Visionaire as well as Los Angeles’s Standard Rooftop gives you an image that his sound is going to places. Clovis can be seen playing alongside big names as Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, Magda to name a few and debuted in one of the biggest festivals in Europe – Sunwaves. Rafael is an established DJ, promoter, performer and music producer, under aliases of RifRaf, djOI and recently Kurtu - a new live audio visual experimental improvisation duet.

Based in Vilnius again, where he runs Cvi parkas - a plant based food & natural wine bar which is also a hub for multidimensional community affairs, interdisciplinary art, live music and DJs during European summers. Raf was born in Vilnius, where he also learned to play professionally violin and piano. 
Since 2000, he relocated to Australia, where he created not only a home to himself, but also many weekly and monthly events, small and large scale festivals and ran many tours with a wide range of artists. He was one of the founders of Sydney Earthdance Festival, Diffusion, Deep As Fu*k and Pirates of the Underground events. 

Raf is a music digger and educator, holding residencies for over 15 years now at Berlin’s Golden Gate, Melbourne’s Killing Time, and a regular guest at Sash, Breakfast Club and many other globally recognised music institutions including Club der Visionaere.

RifRaf produced many releases solo and collaborations with variety of artists including Jay Haze, San Proper, Daze Maxim, Alexkid to name a few..
