Locked in the Sludge

I took the Psalms of the Bible and turned them into modern day Grunge Rock, I love it.

Psalm 23

Street’s got a pulse and it’s kicking my ribs
Every promise tastes like rust on the lips
Coins in my pocket, blood in my mouth
I learned how to stay by learning how to bounce

Footsteps echo like debts I owe
Every door locked but I still knock slow
I don’t pray, I pace
I don’t wait, I scrape

Hands still shaking but I light it anyway
If it burns me alive, at least I feel awake

We don’t shine, we scrape and crawl
Names carved deep in bathroom walls
If this night breaks, let it break my bones
I don’t glow — I grind, I roll

Static in my head, cheap wine breath
Everybody talking like they beat death
Sirens laugh when the plans fall through
I stitch my pride with a safety pin truth

Eyes like knives, smiles like scams
Everybody selling the best they am
I learned quick what lasts and what rots
Love don’t linger, hunger does not

I don’t need saving, I need a spark
Something loud enough to scar the dark

We don’t shine, we scrape and crawl

Kick the curb till the curb kicks back
Hearts run cheap but the dreams cost stacks
I lose count of the nights I swore
I was done begging for something more

No crowns, no clean escapes
Just heat, mistakes, and borrowed faith
If this is all I get to hold
I’ll hold it hard, I won’t let go

Still standing when the weak ones stall
If this night breaks, let it take control

I’ll sweep the glass from my own skin
Let the morning find me still breathing
No shine, no mercy, no control
Just a low guitar and a heart on hold
