They were lucky. When twelve and thirteen year old kids start a band, there are no auditions - whoever can play an instrument and lives in the neighborhood is in. Sleeping in the Stereo was fortunate not only because of their individual talents, but because the group has developed the tightness of bands twice their age. Most bands don’t share the history with each other that these musicians do. In 2006, long time neighborhood friends; drummer Teddy Mathews, guitarist Henry Stoehr, and bassist Alex Leeds met guitarist Paul Arbaje through the teenage band incubator, Good N’ Loud music. Two years later, vocalist Frankie Pobar Lay was added to the roster and the band was complete. 

Sleeping in the Stereo has performed throughout southern Wisconsin over the past four years, including venues such as Summerfest, The Majestic, The Frequency, and the Memorial Union Theater. They have also been the recipients of two Madison Area Music Awards (M.A.M.A.’s). Recently they won the Isthmus Band to Band Combat, giving them some well-deserved attention, and a much wider fan base. Finalists in the statewide Launchpad competition for three consecutive years, Sleeping in the Stereo were offered a commercial campaign by Tilt Media/Charter Communications, worth upwards of $7500. This ad aired on MTV, VH1, USA, and Comedy Central. In a collaborative effort with Launchpad, they were also asked to film a commercial to help promote the state-wide competition.
