Uneven Odds

"The Aphelion is the point in the orbit of an object where it is farthest from the Sun." (- wikipedia) Today, we are at the farthest point away from the Sun that we ever get. Roughly 3 million miles further than where we'll be in 6 months (at Perihelion, when we are closest to the Sun) 

I chose to write a piece of music about Earth's 2020 Aphelion because... well, it's been an incredibly challenging 6 months for just about everyone on planet Earth and somehow thinking that today, the Earth will begin to find its way back to the Sun makes me feel hopeful that the next half of this year could be brighter. Maybe even healing. 

This piece of music is the score of sorts to the last difficult 6 months Woven throughout, there are tiny sounds in tribute to the news of the  pandemic, protests, riots, the launch of SpaceX's Dragon, (even a nod or two to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And snippets of sound from every month of 2020 so far. The song gets more and more distant until the end. 

Oh and "Aphelion" officially kicks off "Astronomy, Vol. 2"! Can't wait to continue on being inspired by the incredible astronomical events and discoveries as they unfold!

Music to observe The Great Conjunction by, on December 21st, 2020 when Saturn and Jupiter will be visibly the closest distance to one another in 800 years. It also happens to be on the Winter Solstice. This piece of music belongs to my ongoing series "Astronomy", which is music inspired by astronomical events and discoveries.
