Both tracks merge her signature techno sound into something that still contains stacks of class and character. The evolving sounds in both tracks build tension and energy to create after hour burners.

The third Realm Of Consciousness compilation on Tale Of Us’ Afterlife Recordings is the label’s most complete statement so far.

The four-vinyl opus opens with Tale Of Us’ now anthemic ‘Nova’, a high-impact and well-loved staple of their sets this year. Agents Of Time continue with the percussive rattle of ‘Paradigm’, before the first released collaboration between luminaries Recondite and Henrik Schwarz shines with understated melody.

Amongst Mind Against’s eerie masterpiece ‘Portal’ and impressive first appearances on Afterlife from Scuba (as SCB) and Steve Rachmad (as Sterac) are ethereal contributions from Fideles, Ovend and Øostil. UK techno veteran Edit Select channels the darker, hypnotic spirit of Afterlife with ‘Phase In’, setting up the sprawling, 14-minute epic from Luigi Tozzi and Antonio Ruscito.

To begin the compilation’s fourth disc, Konstantin Sibold & Kosme’s ‘Cyclone’ lifts the tone, leading into a more introspective sound from Hunter/Game on ‘Changing Weather’. Upcoming German talent Kevin De Vries follows with his infectious cut ‘Mágoa’ and Tone Depth ends the odyssey in mesmerising style with ‘Ibn Sina’.

Drawing inspiration from her first worldwide tour, where life on the road was impacted by personal loss, the album title Pink Bubble captures the essence of the artist’s mindset, caught in between the artistic world and real life: “I felt like in a pink bubble, between memories and new experiences, between darkness and colours”. Brandishing an immersive sonic sphere, the classically trained musician played and recorded all instruments throughout the album, including her favourite weapons of choice, from her beloved 60’s guitar to vintage analog synths like the Moog Sub37, Juno 106, the infamous O-B-6 synth and more.

The synesthesia of dark and colourful with new and old memories stands at the core of the album, as introspective airy tracks intertwine with more dynamic, bass-heavy constructions.

On its luminous side, we see cuts radiating with crystalline, microscoping sounds with sweeping ambience like the opener A Perfect Day in Tulum, leading the listener on a nervous path towards more obscure tracks such as Copenhagen and Nothing to Lose, until bringing the atmosphere to a boiling point. Music is Life encapsulates Giorgia’s passion for her craft, an intrinsic part of her life that brings peace and inspiration: “Music is life with wings, sit in the warm water, just reflecting, being”. Creation and being inspired represent another major theme present throughout the album, both in the eponymous track Inspiration, as well as A Temple Made by Air, where the artist can be heard singing: “Passion means satisfaction, wrong emotions create distortion, come with me to enjoy the green, stop losing time on your screen”. Channelling an overflow of emotions, a return to humanity comes as a resolution for the artist, the central idea in The Contact is a Cure. Giorgia feels that, although useful, “technology is the big nightmare of our society, and we are all missing the contact with nature and human beings”. Rounding off the last part of the release, the sun-drenched Pink Bubble stands as reflective and intense, managing to transfuse the same magnetism that is quintessential to Giorgia’s live performances.

With Pink Bubble, Giorgia Angiuli refines her signature sound across a range of tempos, in a project that can be appreciated both for its intricate groundings and beautiful simplicity.

Afterlife Recordings ends 2018 with an impressive statement from German duo Innellea.

The ‘Vigilans’ EP combines wide-ranging elements - a heavy, guitar riff on the title track, unhinged drumming, zippy synth melodies and distinctive sounds - to stamp the Innellea identity on a bold and high-energy record. They push limits and refuse convention in fine style, making for a standout entry in the Afterlife catalogue.

Pig&Dan debut on Truesoul with a stirring personal work, while Raxon adds an energetic remix to package.

Pig&Dan possess one of the finest pedigrees in techno and are faithful contributors to Drumcode, dropping their most recent EP – the excellent ‘Infinity’ – in February. ‘Promised’ marks their maiden release on DC’s little brother imprint and has a heart-breaking story behind its creation as Dan explains: "whilst enfolded in sadness we started to write a record dedicated to the loss of my son due to a terrible road accident. The vocal says it all ‘you promised you would live forever’ symbolising that your child will usually outlive you as the parent.”

The track’s lilting organ line makes a haunting accompaniment to the vocal, while tender synths and deep grooves ensure it’s a beautiful, timeless tribute. Egypt’s Raxon, who first debuted on Truesoul in 2017 with the ‘Heliopolis’ EP, delivers a tougher peak-time rework.

Kölsch makes his debut on Drumcode, as an Adam Beyer favourite gets his classy remix touch.

Drumcode set the standard with its first release of 2019, recruiting Amelie Lens to deliver an electrifying re-rub of Adam Beyer’s ‘Teach Me’, a fitting highlight to mark the label’s 200th release back in January. As we hit the business end of the year, another Beyer vintage gets the remix treatment as Kölsch adds to his outstanding discography with a maiden DC contribution.

First released back in 2015, ‘What You Need’ was the perfect marriage of deep groove-licked techno and slinky smooth synth lines. Retaining the exotic riff of the original, Kölsch builds tension and euphoria in equal doses as melancholic chords build up in intensity before dramatic string sequences enter the game. It’s the kind of end-of-night soundtrack that’ll make even the most hardened raver go a little misty eyed and a classic addition to the Drumcode catalogue.

ANNA drops a triple dose of heat to mark her first EP on Drumcode.

ANNA first debuted on Drumcode with the irresistible groover ‘Portable Paradise’, which highlighted last year’s A-Sides Vol.7 and set up a busy year playing DC events in 2019. There was the memorable morning set at Space during WMC, two fiery gigs at Drumcode Festival and typically strong performances at the DC takeover at Resistance in Ibiza and Sonar. Fresh from her gargantuan collaboration with Kittin ‘Forever Ravers’, she steps up for a maiden EP on Adam Beyer’s flagship label.

‘Galactic Highways’ is propelled by an arresting peak-time riff and bombastic drums and was a storming addition to Beyer’s set at Drumcode Halloween recently. ‘Dimensions’ is the powerful brain scrambler, as a blistering wall of acid rubs shoulders with undulating bass notes for a dramatic finish. ‘Phase Two’ is a stirring, pad-laden beauty, driven by lustrous melody lines that cascade over the Brazilian’s punchy percussion.
