The Mermaid in the Loch tells the haunting tale of a mystical mermaid who finds herself trapped in the depths of Loch Ness. The melody weaves a narrative of her longing for freedom and connection. Whilst the chorus swells with emotion, echoing her dreams of escaping to the vast open seas and feeling the sun on her skin once more. This enchanting piece invites listeners to dive into a world of fantasy and reflection, where the water holds secrets and the heart yearns for liberation.

He Never Came Home is loosely based on My Grandfathers older brother, John McKay who served with the 1/7th Battalion Princess Louise's (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders) who died of wounds on 14/10/1918. This song tells the poignant story of a spirited young woman, who was in love with John McKay. Their love shared promises of a future and dreams of a wedding, John marched away to the fields of Flanders, carrying with him the hopes of a love that would conquer all. Yet, fate wove a different path, leaving the young lady with cherished memories and an unyielding sorrow. She stood alone after receiving the letter, mourning the sacrifice of her beloved, this melody becomes a tribute to the enduring strength of love and the echoes of a promise that time cannot erase. Whilst I do not know the young woman’s name or whatever became of her. I wrote the song based upon what my grandfather had told me.

A lively and uplifting jig that captures the untamed spirit of a journey down Scotland’s breathtaking Caledonian Canal. With each swirling note, the tune evokes the rhythm of oars in water, the call of distant hills, and the joy of adventure through one of the Highlands’ most storied waterways. A celebration of movement, nature, and the timeless magic of a Scottish voyage.

Cèilidh nan meanbh-chuileag (The Midgies Cèilidh)
A spirited Scottish tune that captures the wild energy and humour of a Highland gathering under siege by Scotland’s most infamous tiny terrors, the midges. It is both a tribute to tradition and a nod to anyone who’s ever dared to dance at dusk in the Highlands.

"Whisky on a Mountaintop" is a rugged, soulful anthem about solitude, resilience, and finding peace in wild places. Set against the backdrop of a stormy mountain ridge, the song blends raw imagery with a steady, weather-worn rhythm. It’s about a man alone with the elements, soaked boots, a flask in hand, and the sky crackling above, raising a toast to the chaos around him.
