Mon Rivera
Mon Rivera (Puerto Rico, 1925–1978) was a trombonist, singer, and arranger who left a lasting mark on Afro-Caribbean music. Known as the “king of the plena,” he reshaped the sound of the genre by introducing full trombone sections, giving salsa and plena a deeper, more resonant identity. His work stands as a bridge between tradition and innovation, keeping the roots alive while expanding their reach to new generations.

Lluvia con Nieve
“Lluvia con Nieve,” released in 1961 on the album Que Gente Averiguá, is one of Mon Rivera’s defining songs. The piece weaves the tropical pulse of the Caribbean with the poetic image of rain and snow, elements that rarely meet yet coexist in music. It is a reflection on contrasts, on joy and nostalgia, on the beauty that arises when opposites touch. Listening to it is to feel how Rivera transformed everyday images into timeless sound, reminding us that music can hold both warmth and cold, both sorrow and celebration, within the same rhythm.
