"In the mid-to-late 80's, I dubbed a mixtape from a friend that included some great music. Unfortunately, the person who made the mixtape had not labeled it with anything to identify the songs/artists. I was able to identify all of the songs except for one, which I quite like. I have been on a maddening 25+ year hunt to find out who the original artist was. When the internet kicked into high gear and search engines like Google came along, I thought for sure I would finally solve this ancient mystery. Alas, this has not been the case. I have not been able to find lyrics or anything else online to assist."

A Friend of mine was in America in the 80s and he listened to WNYU - FM.
 
He heard a Song there but did not hear the Name and Artist.

Can you ID this funky post-punk song taped off WNYU in the '80s?

DJs Oz and Mike Halloran on San Diego's 91X FM discuss the about-to-be-released Depeche Mode album 'Violator' and premiere tracks off the record in March 1990. They reveal the tracklist, describe the artwork and liner notes from the just-obtained CD, then play "World In My Eyes," "Policy of Truth" and "Halo" (actual songs omitted here). At the end, they talk to a record label rep who announces the soon-to-be-infamous in-store appearance at the Wherehouse in Los Angeles on March 20, 1990 ("We're expecting total melee outside," Halloran predicts, accurately). 

Recorded on a TDK D-90 cassette and stored in a Vans shoebox for the subsequent 25 years.

Premiere of Depeche Mode 'Violator' on San Diego's 91X (March 1990)

This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Depeche Mode's landmark 'Violator' album, and it's also the anniversary of the band's infamous in-store at a Wherehouse record store in Los Angeles. To mark the occasion, here is about 7 minutes of KROQ's broadcast that night, featuring Richard Blade interviewing the members of the band about the album and their touring plans.  This was recorded off the radio on a TDK D-90 cassette and stored in a Vans shoebox for the subsequent 25 years.
