Farewell To Dunkeld was written by Christopher during a residency in Dunkeld in Scotland and is released on his album 1000 Years. The song's waltz beat connected with producer Slim Vic, who began arranging and remixing the song into a stripped-down version where the folk sounds are mixed with ambient and a touch of the modern classical genre.

The remix is the first time Lamour and Barrackas Records have collaborated and we can look forward to more future releases where folk and electronic sound in unison.

The very prominent DJ and producer Diego Narvaez from Quito in Ecuador puts his dance floor beats to rest and steps into the beautiful world of ambient music. With his remix, Swedish Slim Vic adds a Nordic sound of forest and desolation.

The completely acoustic song Lille now gets a new costume by Swedish producer Slim Vic. The acoustic sound is still there but is mixed with electronic layers that lead the melodies to go in and out of their roles, like a starry sky on an early spring night.

Sometimes in life things fall into a perfect circle. One such example is the project ‘HIND’ by acclaimed Swedish Grammy nominated musicians Sebastian Mullaert and Henrik Frendin, constituting the pinnacle of over 40 years of combined research and creative explorations in the space of contemporary electro-acoustic music. 

The first encounter between the two was back in 2006 at the Malmö Academy of Music. Following an illustrious career in the electronic dance music scene, Sebastian received support from tastemakers like Mixmag, FACT, Electronic Beats and Crack and nominated twice for Swedish Grammy both for his solo work and under his Minilogue project. He was voted in the “Top Live Acts In The World" by Resident Advisor, for his awe inspiring performances touching all corners of the globe form Boiler Room, through Berghain and Fabric. Mullaert became interested in returning to his roots as a classically trained musician, seeking novel ways of integrating classical and electronic music, culminating in his stunning “Natthall” LP with Zurich Philharmonic Orchestra which featured in the BBC Music Magazine “Top 10 Post Classical Albums” of 2020.

Meanwhile, Frendin was touring internationally promoting his solo album ‘Viola con Forza’ (2004), nominated for a Swedish Grammy in the category ‘Classical solo’, at that time already considered one of Scandinavia´s leading violists.
This album was a compilation of works by leading Swedish composers, all pieces dedicated to Frendin. To meet his vision of expanding and developing the sound palette of an electro-acoustical string instrument, a new amplified string instrument called Electric Viola Grande, built, and created by Richard Rolf, was constructed especially for him. This unique five-string viola set a new standard of authentic sound and design in the field of electro-acoustical instrument making. Frendin´s first appearance on stage with the new instrument was at a performance in Wiener Concerthaus as a feathured solo artist at “Lange Nacht der Neue Klänge”.
Naturally, this sparked Mullaert’s interest, so he enrolled for private lessons with the viola professor Frendin.

Fast forward to 2024 and the pair reunited for the resulting ‘HIND’ project, with the main inspiration and starting point nature, and it was an up-close experience with a baby wild deer and its protective mother while they were both meditating in the woods from which the album takes its name. “Almost getting showered by the beauty of nature – it was quite a magical moment that has never happened to me before or anyone else I know for that matter,” adds Mullaert.

Across ‘HIND’, both Mullaert and Frendin’s creative practises and different musical backgrounds are taken to a new level of technical and artistic achievement. Album opener ‘Dawn’ peacefully unfolds – the sun comes up, the darkness clears – while the sprightly ‘Stepping Stone’ and album title track ‘Hind’ elegantly use melody, rhythm, and harmony; a result of a series of long takes in which Frendin’s playing is processed, looped, and warped in real time by Mullaert, with Frendin adding real-time string layers through improvisation and Mullaert performing multilayer looping.

Elsewhere, the celestial ‘Starling Solitude’ and breezy ‘Stardance’ flow and breath freely like nature itself creating an atmospheric treat. There is a sonic dialogue between the two artists that blurs boundaries between acoustic and electronic music and that has at its core experimentation and freedom. “I woke up one morning getting this vision about the curiosity of how our different worlds of sound would match together and to create some kind of synchronicity,” adds Frendin.

The gentle ripples of ‘The Fogs’ and the deeply ethereal soundscapes of ‘Another Form of Wings’ reveal two artists with a deep connection to sound and to one another, while the introspective ‘Embrace’ has a beautifully haunting ambience that slowly emerges.

Obscure Amulets is the solo project from American composer and violinist Hilary Davis, crafting haunting string arrangements and ambient electronic textures that create worlds for listeners to lose themselves in. The song "Incantations" from her debut EP is remixed by Swedish composer Slim Vic. With pulsing rhythms and intriguing effects, the song is transformed into a downtempo, melodic modern classical piece for both eclectic dancefloors and relaxed lounge listenings. The Meant label really is on a fine run in 2015, and now offers up its 3rd release of the year. This one is a brilliant, club ready package from Rework and features excellent original material alongside carefully A&Red remixes from BALD and ClickBox.
Rework is a German collaborative project between Daniel Varga, Michael Kuebler and Sascha Hedgehog. As well as having ties to this label, they have released on Items & Things, Visionquest and Playhouse, and high profile fans include Seth Troxler. The creative trio has been doing this more than 15 years now, and as such is as good at making essential 12”s as it is full length albums.
Opener ‘Too Forward’ is a freaky bit of slow motion electronic house. Vast kicks form the marching beat as trippy vocals repeat the title’s refrain until it loses all form. Around it, sparking electronics and phased synth lines make for a fine cacophony that will undoubtedly freak out ‘floors.
The devilishly dark and alluring ‘Overdosed’ is a more up tempo track with shadowy post punk energy. No wave synths gurgle and tinny chords light up the centre as a disaffected vocal mutters about overdosing over the top. It’s another perfectly freaky track. Last offering ‘Candy And Korg’ is a wiggling, synthetic house track cut from the Gemini mould. It’s bubbly, rich and subtly groovy and is the sort of thing you’d hear in a Craig Richards set.
Magda favourites ClickBox then remix this one into a sparse but elastic affair with dry hi hats the main hook of a perfectly reduced minimal track. Finally, buy the EP digitally and you will also get a brilliant BALD remix of ‘Too Forward’ that is all tough synths, alien arps and reverb rich vocal ad libs.
Once again here Meant and Rework have cooked up a perfect dance floor storm.

Paris-born, Tokyo-raised, New York-based international eclectic French DJ, music producer and sound designer Alex from Tokyo is very excited to announce the October 2015 launch of his record label "world famous" with a new Tokyo Black Star EP (the first release in three years)!

Working in harmony with music partner and sound/mastering engineer Isao Kumano in Tokyo, Alex from Tokyo formed Tokyo Black Star in 2000 while remixing Big Moses feat. Jan'elle's house classic "For you" for Kerri Chandler's label Bassmental records. Since then Tokyo Black Star has released five EPs including the first-ever release on high-profile Berlin label Innversions (the "Psyche Dance EP," 2005) and their full length debut album “Black Ships” (April 2009, also on Innervisions), an EP on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted House label and remixes for artists like Tony Allen (P-Vine records Japan, 1999), Carl Craig (Psyche “Neurotic Behavior” on Planet E, 2011), Phenomenal Handclap Band (Tummy Touch Records, 2013), Bing Ji Ling (Lovemonk), and Kuniyuki (mule music), and among others. 

Always looking for new challenges and sonic adventures, in the summer of 2010 the Tokyo Black Star duo were joined by top Japanese audio professionals at Isao’s studio in Tokyo, leading to the creation of a new “revolutionary” audio brand called phonon (www.phonon-inc.com), which makes exceptional pro-audio equipment for studio and DJ use. phonon has been getting lots of attention for their legendary studio monitoring headphones the SMB-02, and now, at the same time as the launch of the world famous label, phonon are releasing their brand new mobile hi-fi phonon 4000 headphones. The attention to detail shown in the production of these top class electronics is typical of the kind of the care and love Tokyo Black Star put into their productions and Alex from Tokyo displays in his much-respected always-joyous DJ sets around the world.

Tokyo Black Star's last release, in 2013, was a special musical contribution called "X"  for a unique celebratory 10th anniversary compilation for Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas fashion brand Y-3.  Alex from Tokyo co-directed the exclusive compilation which can be heard at www.Y-3.com/music. Early in 2014, Alex from Tokyo was chosen to compile Volume 10 of the great CD series "Originals" on the London label claremont 56. Shortly after, in the summer of 2014, Tokyo Black Star started to work again on some new original music with the help of their great musician/analog equipment otaku friend Kenichi Takagi. The collaboration was fruitful, leading to Kenichi san officially becoming the third Tokyo Black Star member, bringing along some of his favorite old, new and handmade (modular) synths into the mix.

The four different straight up house music club tracks here on the "Edo Express EP" showcase Alex from Tokyo's versatile and funky DJ style and come from a very special fun jam session that took place in January 2015 at Isao’s Tokyo Black Star and phonon studio with Kenichi. The stunning artwork for the release is done by long-time collaborator the very talented New York based Japanese artist Tomokazu Matsuyama, who has been creating the Tokyo Black Star visual identity since their first release on Innversions in 2005. Please note that this is the first release on world famous but the catalogue number is actually wf-002.

Slim Vic is one of Sweden´s leading innovators of the DJ and turntable culture. With one foot in the urban club music and the other in art music he combines the different worlds and constantly moving the boundaries of what is technically and musically possible within the traditional and proven context. With turntable as his main instrument and a worldwide crate digging obsession his set always feels unique and filled with passion, both when we hear him live or as a DJ (maybe its the same). The combination of ambient and art music on records to funky house and eclectic styles in the DJ both has taken him all around the world for over 2500 performances.

Slim has done colaborations on records with AKB, Lehnberg, Görgen Antonsson and Singular and is a member of imrpoband Hawaii (Johan Sundberg), metalband Dieselkopf, improband OLÅT (Eva Lindal, Thomas Bjelkeborn & Ida Lundén)  and avant-garde band Alderholmens Futuristiska (Olle Oljud & LEHNBERG).

Slim Vic is the director of Lamour Records. Since 2012 they have released over 100 records, both limited avant-garde ambient releases and Swedish grammy nominated techno artists. Lamour organize festivals and club nights in Sweden and Europe. The label also run Lamour Record Store in Gävle with a fine selection of Nordic electronic music on cassette and vinyl, Lamour Record Store.
