Born amidst a cloud of tear gas and alcohol fueled chaos that caused the dissolution of DSNF. A punk rock band that had gained a following in the hardcore punk rock backyard scene in Santa Ana, Slime Kings formed in Costa Mesa in 2008. Playing an eclectic, energetic hybrid of second wave 2 Tone Ska and hardcore punk with the simple idea that every scene and genre was too small to be confined to musically. With influences ranging from James Brown to T.S.O.L. and a house in the industrial district of Costa Mesa at their disposal, the band would echo with their odd experiments and relentless rehearsing and their day jobs suffered accordingly. Finally, two ‘Eviction Shows’ later, Slime Kings emerged as a solid unit; Eric Jimenez, Michael Wolfe, Adam Merchain and Maxwell Patterson. It was also then that the name that started as a joke took on a whole new meaning. They knew the game now; the players, the fakers, the trends, all the pointless bullshit and barely concealed politics. That being the absolutely irrelevant garbage that has seeped into the once pure realms of Punk Rock, Rock and Roll, Hip Hop and the rest of the music scene as a whole. There it all blends together like the sewage that seeps into the waters we surf. There is the Slime and these are the Kings. That became the goal; to rise to the top of this muck laughing, still true to their roots, still real and holding the keys to lock all the weasels in their place. Their on stage antics have earned them a reputation as a four piece powerhouse guaranteed to deliver good times and get you moving into the night. Their songs have earned them a reputation for their content, variety and originality. From crowd pleasing anthems like “Leave Us Alone” and “Two Fisted Tales” to slow, dark grooves like “Trust No Man” and “Murder Justified” You need only go to any one of their shows, or pick any of their songs at random and you are guaranteed to get hooked on the punk rock steady funkadelic ska rock and roll, hurricane that is Slime Kings.
