Nottingham’s very own DJ Terrex pairs up with legendary Nottingham star, Marita, best known from her 2008 hit “Geiom & Marita – Reminissin” which rose to fame after featuring on the game changing, Ministry Of Sound, “The Sound Of Dubstep” compilation, the track also went on to receive remixes from Skream and Kode 9. 

This new collaboration sees Marita bring the classic 1990 house track ‘La India - Lover Who Rocks You’ back to life in her own old school, soulful style. Paired with DJ Terrex providing a happy, bouncy, fair ground ride of an instrumental. Coincided with a full music video, and vinyl release courtesy of Nottingham based record label, Pond Life Party.

Over the last 4 months the track has gained amazing support from the fringe of the underground UK Garage scene on both radio, and in the rave. Including DJ EZ, Interplanetary Criminal, DJ Q, Notion, Riz La Teef, Main Phase, Dr Banana, Royal T and more.

August 2022 seen the launch of DJ Terrex, a collaboration project between artists DASEPLATE and J69, in this time the duo saw their debut single reach #25 in the iTunes dance chart, their debut vinyl release sell out in 3 hours, get signed to Earth Agency, and receive numerous radio and playlist support, including Kiss FM, Rinse FM, and Spotify’s Grime Shutdown playlist.

Witchdoctor is an emerging new talent on the UKG and Bass Music scene. Operating out of London, the DJ & Producer has been steadily carving a name out for himself in both genres, most recently with his wicked debut release on Hausmade.

Downplay is proud to present ‘6AM, the sophomore EP from London producer Witchdoctor.

‘Champagne’ kicks off proceedings with a fully feel-good vibe, staccato rhythms and good-time melodies mixing it up before the groove steps in properly. Sugar-sweet basslines and chopped vocals intersperse the track for a little ray of UKG sunshine that will put a smile on any raver’s face.

Title track ‘6AM’ takes another path entirely, with a low-slung 4X4 rhythm guiding the beat across chord washes and a rolling bassline that gives the production a full-on warehouse bumpy bubbler taste that’ll have the floor full in no time.

‘Wot U R’ mixes the best elements of both proceeding tracks into a perfect UKG concoction, saccharine melodies inter-playing tough beats to mesmerizing effect.

‘Open Arms’ is a magical track - equal parts soothing synths and languorous vocals sprinkled over a robust 2-step groove, that slowly unfolds into a 4x4 piano roller. It’s the kind of track that is easy to get lost in - every component compliments the others with beguiling results.

‘Horizon’ takes you even deeper, rolling beats underpinning a truly spellbinding journey that is equal parts cinematic and emotive. Garage tracks like this are rare to come by these days - something that takes the template and twists it into new shapes.

‘Deja Vu’ rolls out on lush piano keys and sugar sweet vocals with a firing breakbeat foundation for something totally refreshing, before unfurling with an orchestral grandiosity that showcases just how versatile this new artist really is.

‘Big Sound’ arrives in an ominous atmosphere, brooding chords swirling around a stripped-back 2-Step groove. Bubbling basslines provide the punch as the percussion gets an intensive workout.

‘Next Up’ raises the tempo and delivers a master-class in minimal funk as the rolling bass combines with a killer rhythm to get your head nodding and your feet moving.

‘Conform’ drops soulful vocal samples over an ever-evolving rhythm for an intriguing roll-out that extrapolates the classic UKG template and mutates it into something fresh and new.

Next up is Aversion, an equally eerie introduction in fine On1 style, subtly building sounds and energy pushing towards the climax which is the drop which makes for a bass heavy, head nodding, screw face pulling, gun finger pointing riddim! Signal kicks off with a eerie tone, murky spaced out strings sit ontop of a bouncing high hat groove setting the tone. As the intro progresses more elements get introduced continuously pushing the track forward getting the listener more immersed and more curious about what is going to happen next, when almost out of nowhere the real build hammers in and without warning so does the gritty bass and skippy drums making this proper 2-step X grime hybrid making it a track that would sit well in a set with MC's as well on its own.
