"I Wanna Get Witcha" is a mid tempo love song, playfully serenading a long-time love interest to elevate their friendship into a romantic endeavor. The flirtatious lyrics and sweet plea in Walter’s voice illustrate a flourishing connection between a man and a woman he has known for quite some time.

Walter Thomas wrote and recorded "I Wanna Get Witcha" in North Chicago, Illinois in 1987, and the track was eventually released in the UK by Bay Breeze records on CD in 2000. In 2008, the tune was pressed up as a small run white label promo 7". We were then introduced to this soulful Chicago dance floor starter at the legendary, San Francisco-based dance party Sweater Funk via the deep crates of veteran Selector DJ Kirk. Our reissue is a re-mixed and re-mastered version, accompanied by its previously unreleased instrumental.

Cologne-based Afro-fusion collective Muito Kaballa, known for their mesmerizing live shows, are following up their BBC Radio 6 endorsed single 'Like A River' with another Afro-soul fusion track titled 'Let Go.' This new single features the rising Belgo-Congolese artist Reinel Bakole. 'Let Go' challenges societal notions of success and explores how dreams can be stifled by economic and societal pressures. The band incorporates futuristic, synth-led soundscapes alongside their established Afro-fusion stylings, with dub-influenced horn lines engaging in a conversation with Bakole. The synth leads evoke shades of the Australian groove group Mildlife, while the subtle Afrobeat groove remains true to Muito Kaballa's established sound.

Thematically aligned with the concept of separation, 'Let Go' is an empowering piece that urges listeners to question certain ideas and encourages them to release their burdens. The lyrics delve into how dreams can be overshadowed by economic pressure and society's narrow definition of success. The line "Your life may shine like gold, but your dreams remain untold" directly addresses this notion.

'Like A River' is an album that focuses on transitional moments in life and the detachment from ingrained social ideals. The centerpiece of the album is the three-part movement titled 'Like A River Parts I-III,' which serves as the beginning, middle, and end. Accompanied by a film, these movements serve as the score, showcasing the band's remarkable songwriting and collective arrangement skills. The album incorporates diverse influences ranging from Afrofunk, gnawa, contemporary jazz, and rumba. While Muito Kaballa's previous albums predominantly explored afrobeat and tackled subjects like social equality, racial politics, and climate change, 'Like A River' takes a more intimate and personal approach as a concept album.

Niklas Mündemann, the tenor saxophonist and composer, leads Muito Kaballa. The Cologne-based collective initially started as a one-man loop station street show but has since gained recognition for their eclectic performances. The band has released three albums to date: 'Everything Is Broke' in 2019, 'Mamari' in 2021, and 'Little Child' in 2022. With each release, they have garnered a devoted fanbase and received critical acclaim from domestic press outlets.

'Like A River' is scheduled for release on September 1st via Batov Records.

Gary (who also goes by the name Slikk Tim) hails not from the streets of Detroit, Oakland or Atlanta, but from the post-industrial city of Nancy, France. While he might be a relatively new name as a producer, he’s got plenty of experience as a session musician for the likes of Dâm-Funk and Orlando Voorn, as well as having played for Los Hermanos, the project headed by Gerald Mitchell of Underground Resistance.

Indeed, it was Voorn who introduced Gary to Underground Resistance’s Mad Mike, who helped get him his first deal on Clone Records. Now Gary’s newest slice of futuristic electro funk – The Sugar Cane Chronicles Vol. 1 - is being released on Hypercolour next month.

The EP’s not out until 1st April (no foolin’) but we’ve got the exclusive premiere of the lead track, ‘Preachin’ Some Tight Game’. A super-groovy blend of fluttering jazz chords, silky caramel bass, and raw drum programming courtesy of Gary’s trusted 606. Topped off with a squiggly little G-funk melody that’ll worm its way inside your skull and set up shop for the spring.

Saint Petersburg summers are an open window for a never setting sun. “White Nite” sees the Untitled Gear collective paying tribute to this season where they reside. The title track follows the sun’s behaviour stubbornly locked in groove, while blinks of bright rhythms wax and wane. “Just better” and “It’s Wonderful” bend between hooks and ambiguous tones, shining through as two reflective dance songs; yes, there is singing in both!
