Composed for Irtijal's "Istimrar" series, this piece focuses on the different aspects of resonance emitted from drum instruments where transient sounds were eliminated by using different techniques.
These techniques include the usage of rotating motors, transducers and contact mics placed on cymbals, hi hats, snares, kick drums & floor toms as well as processing sound through max/msp.

I greatly appreciate how, in Julia's mix, there is this fine capture of a (what I think is a) particularly diasporic and Korean approach to things - hiding irreverent tones inside of a melancholy substrate. I love how they approach their DJing with a smart, but earnest angle that is rare to hear. What an honor it is to receive this beautiful submission.

kijulia says: "Hi I’m kiju (born Kim Jung Hoo). I started and ended this mix with a voice memo I found on my phone recorded during my extended stay in Ganghwa-do, circa 2017. I was on my commute to work when suddenly an air raid drill started unexpectedly and the bus I was on and all the citizens around me on the street ceased all activity until the siren stopped ringing. When it finally did, life simply resumed at the same high speed as we left it and everyone went back about their business as if nothing had happened. We all just went back to work."
