We're going a little off piste with something new on SB this week... We welcome returning mad scientist Scruscru with his buddy Mike Fot who came to us with the beginnings of a weird and wonderful new off shoot series called Spliff Jamz. 

Following a series of visits to Moscow between 2018 and 2020 to play at Powerhouse club, Scruscru would swing by Mike Fot’s apartment for a smoke and a jam session, working with a variety of Roland and Korg gear late into the night. The results of these sessions have led to a series of EPs; with the first four tracks ready for your ears right now.

@orlando-voorn is an artist who is more than 30 years deep in the game. Across that time he has lived and breathed music from being an 80's DMC world Championship contender to releasing everything from Techno, Old School Hop Hop, Sample Heavy Breaks, club focussed house and Soulful house under a variety of monikers.

Recognised worldwide as a member of the Techno and House royalty his latest release sees him team up with @HeistRecordings for a devastating EP 'Mastercuts'.

The EP features brand new track Be With You as well as a couple of his remastered underground 90's hits which are hugely deserving of a new lease of life, sounding perfectly in tune with 2022.

As the saying goes, good things come in twos. Fries and gravy, chocolate and peanut butter, brussels sprouts and bacon (seriously, don't knock it till you try it) and now @Secret-Reels and @BetterListenRecords. The A&R masterminds behind the two labels, Lee Dearn and Martín Miguel respectively, have joined forces, not unlike the two heroes Batman and Superman to fight.. well to bring us good music anyway. @SecretListenRecords is the new collaborative effort from the pair and the first release is a four track various artist sampler split in half by artists signed to both parent labels. Secret Reels veterans Chocky and Harry Wolfman make an appearance while Swedish newcomers to the Better Listen roster, Sune and Vitamin D give you a sneak peak of what's to come for the DC-based imprint.

The man of the hour today is @HarryWolfman and quite frankly it's a surprise that it's taken us this long to premiere one of his tunes, as we've been big fans for ages. The London export who has recently been spending some time in Spain appears on the A1 of the record and the track is entitled 'Floozy'. Built around a lovely jazzy flute sample, the aptly named tune has a wicked percussion rhythm behind it, giving it that easy listening character paired with a dance floor ready groove. Some atmospheric flavours and colourful trills pop up throughout as warm chords lend to the pleasant mood while a nonchalant bassline helps keep those feet moving. Quite the doozy, Floozy is just another example of why Harry Wolfman's fantastic sample work paired with his ear for a groove have landed him releases on a number of premier labels in the past.

'Dear Lord' is a glorious piano jam laced with dubbed out gospel vocals, shuffling drum machine hats and a pimped out G-Funk synth lead that really takes you to church. Live Ones returns with a belting new 12’’ EP featuring five deep and sultry tracks from five artists hailing from four different countries. Windows (formally DJ Windows XP) kicks things off with their familiar dusty and melancholic drive, pulling all the right heartstrings on ‘I Wanted To Share My Feelings But You Kept Talking’. Label owner Lorca’s ‘Sirens’ follows this on a similar, ravey vibe with stomping kicks, breaks, breast-beating string samples and bleeps.

The flip side sees the talented and experienced Intr0beatz in amazing form utilizing rich, orchestral strings and his signature house grooves to produce the infectious ‘For The Love’. Keith Lorraine (also known as Baby Rollen) of London is up next with the emotionally rich ‘Wild Flower’. The track builds nicely into the final cut ‘Dreams’ from Canada’s Mathew Ferness. Here we see the artist at his best, using looping vocals and piano stabs to great effect, completing an EP that will work just as well in your headphones as it will on the dancefloor.
