Through it's first three releases, Andrew James Gustav's label Marginal Returns has prided itself on shifting underrated talent into the much-deserved limelight. Whilst the label head has achieved a similar effect by unearthing forgotten records from the past, his brainchild focuses on fresh music that's primed to be appreciated in the here and now.

With previous releases from Sohrab, Two Phase U and, Controlled Weirdness, Marginal Returns moves onto it's fourth release with Enrica Falqui's Plexus EP. The seventh release on the label comes from emerging live act duo, Solar Sound System. Opener ‘K7’ is a nod to electro sounds of the past, clean drums, with bleeps and beeps you would expect from the early 90’s era. Nemo Vachez drops the original on its head with his ‘Transcendental Dance Mix’, as expected obscure movements from the Rakya affiliate, taking you down a darker path than the original. Rounding off the A side is CD-R, peak time off the bat bass lines with an acid spring in its step. 

The pair split up for the B side and provide a solo turn out each, Jimmy Batt steps up first with ‘Magic Garden’ the broken drums are misleading, as a driving bassline sweeps in, begging to be played through a club system. Partner in crime P.O adds probably the most curious dynamic to the release, a trippy rave vibe not to be underestimated.

Solär Sound System - Temporal Rift EP (Incl. Nemo Vachez Remix) (OPIA007)

The fifth chapter of Threads' journey through underground club music is also the first various artist of the label. The opening track is a an acid cut with a bouncing backbeat provided by Dormald aka Omar Akhrif and Donald, owners of Big Morning Records and resident at Veniceberg. The A2 is a smoking clubbing anthem that will immediately bring you to the UK scene, home of the Italian artist Jos, who built his reputation through the years with his productions for his labels Eya / Lonewolf and his DJ set around Europe. The opening track of the B-side is the debut of Grapevibe, a collective straight out of Bologna. It's a house cut with proggy elements and a Balearic touch with a clear reference to the Italian deep house scene from the nineties. The closing track is another debut, this time is Nando aka NND. Electronic Device is your go-to track to create that special mood on the dancefloor.

The unhurried rhythm of evolution.

Slow Life came into being in 2011 when an easygoing set of Spaniards & Italians crossed paths and coalesced in Berlin. The current collective consists of Laurine, Cecilio, S. Moreira, and Santi Uribe a.k.a. Indi Zone. The music they play, like the music they produce, is bound together by threads of luminosity and timelessness. 

Between innumerable hours in the studio, a knack for sourcing new talent, and thoughtful art direction, the label grew steadily and organically, and a signature Slow Life identity began to emerge. This led naturally to parties at their homebase in Hoppetosse and the globe-trotting showcases for which the group has become widely known. Ardent digging and long, mesmerizing DJ-sets are central to their craft; they fabricate a musical space for the audience to get lost in, the adventure going as far and deep as the collective imagination will allow. To put it simply: they know how to throw a party and make you feel right at home. 

Each release on the label invokes a timestamp of their intersections and environment, resulting in collaborations with Primary Perception, Basement Space, and Paolo Mosca, to name a few. Strains of jazz, breaks, and ambient music inflect Slow Life’s singular sound with a charismatic balance of discerning taste and approachability.

Slow Life is about taking time and the unhurried rhythm of evolution. Music as a celebration of music. No rush, no pretense, no limitations — only deep work, positive expression, and playful experimentation.
