Quartier Groove Records releases its first EP “Ritmo del Barrio” that features two club weapons from the Spanish electronic music vaults of the 90s, TYU’s remix of Bravo & Dj’s 1989 one-hit wonder “Difacil Rap”, and Richard Fribert’s rework of the early electronic rumba track “Sueño Almohade” by Sombra y Luz. Both tracks have been licensed and agreed with the original labels and writers, and will be limited to 300 copies.

On the a-side, an edgy club revision of a 90s hip-house track that was originally written by a group of DJs compelling us to join them for a wild night out. TYU’s remix, that only makes use of the rad rapapella, makes a perfect match to the daring call and takes us to a 90s rave of today in full style, with its bold drums, slappy snares, trancy synths and road-paving bassline.

The flip comes with Richard Fribert’s powerful and fearless hi-NRG rework of the experimental rumba song “Sueño Almohade” by Sombra y Luz, a track that makes a clear flirt with the history of Spain, a country that was once the Muslim ruled area of “Al-Andalus”. Spanish passion meets Arabic mystique in this hard, slamming, acid ride of an update. The result, a DJ weapon to be reckoned with.

The two tracks comes together to form Ritmo del Barrio EP, “Quartier Groove” in Spanish, the project by label heads Richard Fribert & MOQST that was designed to encourage listeners to search for more unknown and forgotten music in the most unexpected of corners of the world.

Following on from Tu Sei Pazza, Daniel Monaco returns to the Bordello with the bitter taste of the TB303 on his tongue. Acid Maria smoulders with the intensity of a Belgian new beat banger circa 1989. Smoky words whisper over rusted rhythms before the fog and strobe take hold. Cold strings haunt with snaking coils of 303 squawk growing ever bolder in this intense track. The flip is divided into two very different remixes. First up is Curses who approaches the piece in his own unique way. The fanfare and frigid lines of the original are expanded. Strings come care of guitars as a bright synth wave reimaging unfolds, a reimaging with one of the most daring breaks you are likely to ever hear. Younger Than Me close. This interpretation adds a fevered tone to the original. BPMs rise and pitches are pushed while chilly notes soon balloon into a frenzy to bring a full floor energy. Close to Italo Disco, Dream House is a sub-genre of House and Trance music that appeared at the second half of the 90’s in Europe, with labels such as Dance Floor Corporation (DFC) or even ZYX Records.

We’ve asked some of the best in the games to create a very diversified pallet of sub-sub-genres.

Following a series of memorable appearances on Casco’s Music Control and Bordello A Parigi, Miss Plug Inn teams up with Norwegian cosmic disco veteran Jarle Bråthen for a double dose of Italo Pop on Funnuvojere Records.

Under Neon Lights is an uplifting funk track buoyed on a surge of nostalgic synth, in which love seems to find itself again. On the B side Girls of The Night has just the right amount of hard synths to bring us back to the electro cosmic sound of the early 2000s.The hip-house vocals are the cherry on top of this delicious cake. 

A chugging bass line, acoustic drums, fragments of piano house and tripped-out trance waves distinguish Budino’s remix of Under Neon Lights. Omer’s remix of Girls Of The Night conjures a Miss Plug Inn in leather attire. This is a rather uptempo remake for late night dance floors. Check out Bråthen’s Rabbagast remix for a Hi-NRG club banger.

Boys’ Shorts is a Greek DJ/production duo based in London. The duo was founded by Vangelis (ex-LAGASTA) and Tareq.
The Crop Tops EP‘s title track is a lyrical ode to queer dancefloor longing and is already proving to be a much requested hit.‘Days Without You‘ and ‘Nostalgia‘ compliment each other with a laidback emotional warmth, whilst ‘In The City‘ draws on their rave culture roots. Boys‘ Shorts are two talented greek queers, whose music I've been playing for the last few years. I love their use of lyrics , their nods to rave and 90s music culture. It's truly a great thing to showcase them at their pop sensibility finest with the Crop Tops EP. All of these tracks have been heavily ID requested in my sets the last year.
