Após o impacto inicial do single “All the possibilities of the universe”, Slowburner, o projeto musical de Élvio Rodrigues, está de volta com um novo tema. “Wildcard”, o segundo single do álbum de estreia Life Happens In The Interim, já está disponível e promete cativar a atenção com a sua mensagem poderosa e o videoclipe intrigante, em que a narrativa visual se entrelaça com o conceito da música.

Em “Wildcard”, Slowburner explora o poder do livre-arbítrio, uma metáfora que transforma a vida num jogo onde cada um de nós tem uma carta especial - a "wildcard" - que pode mudar o curso da nossa existência. Contudo, como na vida, também aqui é necessário discernimento para saber quando e como usar essa carta. Este single é acompanhado por um videoclipe que, tal como a música, navega entre o real e o simbólico. Filmado nos campos do Alentejo, o vídeo transporta o espectador para um cenário onírico, onde a descoberta de uma carta misteriosa leva o protagonista (Slowburner) a uma experiência surreal, culminando num final aberto e cheio de possibilidades, deixando o público a questionar o que é real e o que é apenas um reflexo dos desejos mais profundos.

Este single vem abrir caminho para o lançamento do muito aguardado álbum Life Happens In The Interim, que estará disponível no próximo dia 13 de Setembro em todas as plataformas de streaming, bem como em formato vinil. Neste trabalho, Slowburner conduz-nos por uma jornada introspectiva, explorando as tensões da vida moderna – o delicado equilíbrio entre a busca pelo que realmente nos faz sentir vivos e as exigências do quotidiano que desafiam a nossa atenção e energia. O álbum, composto por nove faixas, culmina precisamente em “Wildcard”, deixando o ouvinte numa encruzilhada, onde a decisão sobre o próximo passo é deixada ao critério de cada um.

Este projeto surge na sequência de um percurso já notável de Slowburner. Em 2017, Élvio Rodrigues lançou o EP de estreia Before I Return To Dust, seguido da mixtape Sunday Mornings Are For Piano em 2019, que nasceu de um desafio criativo nas redes sociais. A sua capacidade de inovação e sensibilidade artística valeu-lhe uma menção honrosa no concurso Novos Talentos FNAC 2018 e, mais recentemente, a distinção como finalista do Festival Termómetro 2023, onde apresentou ao vivo o tema “Wildcard”, entre outros.

Life Happens In The Interim promete ser um marco na carreira de Slowburner, um disco onde o piano, gravações de campo e ambientes cuidadosamente desenhados criam um espaço onde a música transcende classificações, convidando-nos a uma imersão profunda na complexidade da vida.

Com este lançamento, Slowburner reafirma-se como um dos projetos mais intrigantes da cena musical contemporânea, onde a realidade e a imaginação se encontram, criando uma narrativa única e envolvente.

Released in celebration of #PianoDay2019, Fyr is the second single from 'Hav', the debut full-length album by Swedish artist Vargkvint, due April 5 on limited edition vinyl and digital.

Grown up in a small coastal city in Sweden, the sea has always been a core element in the life and inspiration of now Stockholm-based multi-artist Sofia Nystrand, also knows as Vargkvint, and therefore a natural theme for her first full-length album, Hav. 

”The sea has played such a huge part for us, in how societies have formed and grown, it has connected us with each other and given us life, and is the base behind much of our mythology. But at the same time, it has been a really cruel mistress – its storms, tsunamis and rising sea levels have been devastating to both individual lives, whole societies and now humanity as a whole. It’s in that conflict – its beauty and its menace, its life-giving and its life-taking, this concept-album was created”, Nystrand says. 

Echoing its theme, the music on Hav is equal parts sweet and menacing, where piano and vocals are accompanied by musical saw, harmonium, zither, bowed glockenspiel, a male choir, synthesizers, and field recordings, landing somewhere between the definitions of folk, modern-classical, pop and experimental music. Old and new narratives connected to the sea – folklore, migration and the way of nature – are tied together both musically and lyrically.
