The Man Who Likes Watching is the debut solo album by inventive singer and songwriter Charles Stuart and plays like a surreal cocktail of Marvin Gaye with Badly Drawn Boy. It offers a sly and witty portrayal of London life from the playful 'Sunflower' to the dark and disturbing 'Accidents Involving Pedestrians'. 'Bliss in Here' is the inverted hiphop operetta of a slacker plainclothes police man, 'Silence on Trains' is a quickie romance of a tube journey, and in the title track he dreams his father morphs into hardman Gene Hackman.

Slowfoot Records presents Oren Marshall's groundbreaking album for solo electric tuba An Introduction to the Story of Spedy Sponda. Inspired by a dream, the composition traces Spedy Sponda's journey to enlightenment, mirrored by Oren's ongoing search for strategies to unlock the potential of his instrument. When asked to describe his sound Oren replied, "...a contemporary classical ambient space heavy metal experimental improvised folk blues".

The first of a planned five part cycle, Spedy Sponda explores the unique live setup Oren has developed, and captures the range and intensity of his solo performances.

Oren uses the tuba to trigger electronic sounds and loops with the aid of a selection of effects pedals. Part of the piece also involves the connection and simultaneous playing of 5 tubas spread around the room, connected by rubber tubing- a sort of surround sound tuba scape.

Slowfoot records are proud to present Ouch Evil Slow Hop, a collaboration between drum alchemist Sebastian Rochford and Pamelia Kurstin, the woman described by Bob Moog as “one of the most important innovators of the Theremin living today.”

Although aware of one another for a number of years, Seb and Pamelia first played together at the suggestion of Brighton’s Loop Festival, and subsequently recorded this album’s material in a Brighton studio, in a number of free improvised sessions then edited by Seb. Portishead’s Adrian Utley added his unique mixing angle, and Ouch Evil Slow Hop was born.

An album that defies simplistic categorization, it veers between eerie soundscapes, locked celestial grooves and explosive workouts. Sections have variously been compared to Herbie Hancock’s ‘Sextant’ era and Soft Machine locked in a fight to the death with Aphex Twin.

Slowfoot Records is proud to introduce The Grip and their debut album ‘Celebrate’.  

This playful, freewheeling and energetic trio is comprised of three of Europe’s most in demand and respected jazz musicians. Joining Finn Peters on flutes and sax, we have the highly individual playing of Oren Marshall (Sons of Kemet) on tuba and Tom Skinner (Melt Yourself Down, Owiny Sigoma Band) on drums. Both musicians have previously released records on Slowfoot, Skinner most recently under his Hello Skinny moniker, and both have collaborated extensively with Finn over the years, most notably on his critically acclaimed ‘Music Of The Mind’ project.

In some respects The Grip is a reaction to the Music of the Mind project, that heavily featured live sampling, electronics and ‘…covered the stage with wires'. Wanting to bring the music down to earth again, this completely acoustic trio was born. Inspired by stories fictional and true, their telepathic compositions encompass music from hard blues to free bop and deep funk.

The name "The Grip" is taken from the classic free jazz album by "Black" Arthur Blythe. Finn worked with the legendary drummer from the album, Steve Reid, shortly before he died in 2009. Oren has also collaborated with Bob Stewart, the tuba player from that record. Blythe is a big influence on the musicians, but more importantly, the idea of making events (artistic, musical, social) happen within communities is crucial to The Grip's vision.

After a string of successful dates, the group convened in label boss Frank Byng's South London studio and, true to their philosophy, recorded the album in a day. The resulting recording is fresh and spontaneous and their dynamic interplay clearly the result of years of mutual collaboration. 

The Grip will be performing alongside live Hip hop duo Con+Kwake and Michachu (Dj set) at Cargo on the October 19th, as part of a Finn's Sonic Navigation project at Cargo. Sonic Navigation aims to explore the lineage of improvised music, referencing 60 and 70's Jazz recordings that influence live British hip hop, spoken word and contemporary jazz. 

The album is being released on limited edition vinyl.

'Brutalist' marks the return of prodigious electronic producer Robert Logan, with his first full album on Slowfoot since 2016’s 'Flesh Decomposed'. Jumping from clinical dub techno to ambient, IDM and electro to leftfield electroacoustic experiments, Logan’s usual electronic / symphonic inspirations and ambitions are felt heavily yet are married to something new - a strange, driving minimalism sits at the core of this body of work. 

'Brutalist' is a potent, labyrinthine experience, containing 24 tracks recorded and produced over a 13-year period. This is ugly sounds sounding beautiful, impossible combinations working as music. Massive, monolithic structures emerging through rain, compositions demanding simultaneous introversion and dancing in underground bunkers. Music for after the fallout - a future reborn, remade from the elements. 

Just as Brutalism emerged in the aftermath of World War Two as an architectural statement of positive intent, an affirmation of the potential of human endeavour and of rebuilding the future after the horror and destruction that preceded it, so 'Brutalist' is a testament to the indomitable soul's capacity to rebuild amidst profound devastation. Robert Logan, faced with a crucible of severe chronic health difficulties, transmuted the pain into finishing an album, emerging with a retrospective work that reflects the spirit of architectural Brutalism – stark, raw, yet strangely beautiful. Amongst other sufferings, Logan suffered a devastating sound accident at the beginning of 2020 and spent lockdown battling catastrophic tinnitus, and this record is his attempt to revive from and appropriate the new difficulty. 

This latest addition to Logan’s oeuvre may be his most daring and experimental yet. It is infused with the same exploratory DNA as his inspirations - ranging from Aphex Twin and 20th-century classical music to Autechre, Photek, and more - but his sound remains undeniably his own. 

A mysterious, unassuming artist, Logan released his first solo album 'Cognessence', aged 19, to critical acclaim in 2007. Mary Anne Hobbs described the music on his debut as “absolutely outstanding… impossible to quantify”, with BBC Experimental calling Logan “…something of a prodigy… a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find.” Since then, Logan has carved out an unconventional career dictated by his ambition to explore the mental spaces sound can conjure. Aside from his impressive slew of solo albums and EP’s, he has made two albums with ambient guru Steve Roach and worked on album projects with heavyweights such as Grace Jones, Brian Eno, Morcheeba, and, most recently, John Grant on his latest album 'The Art of The Lie'.

New single taken from the forthcoming album 'As Above So Below' [LP/CD/DL].

'As Above So Below' is the brilliant new album by Soccer96, the synth and drums duo of Danalogue [Dan Leavers] and Betamax [Max Hallett] who transmit epic synth-scapes over poly-rhythmic drums and infectious dance grooves in a brutal cocktail of tight electronica and the spontaneous energy of improvisation.

The duo, most known as being two thirds of The Comet Is Coming [with Shabaka Hutchings], currently to be heard whipping up a cosmic storm on their recent acclaimed album 'Channel The Spirits' [Leaf], also collaborate with a huge array of talent. Leavers is currently playing live and recording with Henry Wu, Scratcha DVA, Simbad and Rozi Plain as well as finding time to produce albums by Flamingods, Snapped Ankles and Ibibio Sound Machine. He also plays sax in The Archie Bronson Outfit. Hallett, also a member of groups Super Best Friends Club and Hot Head Show, has played drums with the likes of Sons Of Kemet, Melt Yourself Down, Boredoms, Yussef Kamaal & Nitin Sawney.

In 2012, Soccer96 released a self-titled album, garnering praise from the likes of The 405 and Tom Robinson [BBC6], and leading to a live BBC session for Steve Lamacq. Since then the band have been performing extensively around the UK and abroad playing alongside the likes of Melt Yourself Down, Hello Skinny and Zombie Zombie as well as collaborating with Can frontman Damo Suzuki. More recently they released a vinyl 7" on Wot Not called 'Jupiter Masterdrive' [2014] followed by a released edit from legendary NY DJ Danny Krivit of their tune 'Flight Formations'.

'As Above So Below' is the result of ongoing experiments in various studios over a four-year period including the Total Refreshment Centre in Dalston [with Capitol K] and at Slowfoot label boss Frank Byng's Snorkel Studios in Forest Hill [Byng also contributes percussion to one track]. Recorded using old-school analogue methods, their intention was, partly inspired by Eno's philosophy of 'using the studio as an instrument', to allow the processing of sound to become part of the compositional process whilst embracing Miles Davis' idea of tracks being 'in a state of becoming', a captured moment in time - in their words… "…to allow ourselves to make music as a game, a beautiful, nonsensical voyage into serendipity."

The album is rooted in the timeless human endeavor to reach out beyond everyday existence, in search of dream states and altered states of consciousness…“Our aim was to monitor the effects on the conscious mind when accelerating musical elements at great velocities into high energy collisions. We took specific genre plasm and begun to create sonic compounds with completely alien properties. Avant-garde, hip hop, electronic, pop, prog, jazz and psychedelic particles have been mixed together at an atomic level."

With influences ranging from groups like Can, This Heat, 23 Skidoo and Silver Apples, for their bold approach to improvised composition and recording processes, to the more recent experimentation of artists like Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Gaslamp Killer and Zombie Zombie, the band deliver a dazzling and lysergic blend of jazz, prog and electronica.
