For his first project since his ‘Reigi’ EP released via Antinote in 2018, Slowglide temporarily moves off the UK club music sound with ‘Mount Apeiron’ for more mystical and dreamlike atmospheres. Flirting with the low BPM zone, the tape and its 7 tracks use tribal rhythms, telluric beats, lush drones, trance sounds and surgical sound-design, resulting in an organic, melodic, slow-motion techno.

Inspired by the reading of René Daumal’s Mount Analogue, ‘Mount Apeiron’ is a spiritual and symbolic narrative of mountain climbing : initiation trip, search for meaning, self-transcendence. The listener is propelled into these harsh, deserted metaphysical landscapes, moving deeper into the blizzard to the rhythm of taiko drums for a long and tortuous ride. A journey that ends at the mountaintop to a climax of euphoria in a romantic vision, a last look back on the long road travelled.

After having invited, a few months ago, eight of the best producers France currently has to offer, La Forge now temporarily steps away from the ‘Crysta Ampullaris’ series for a more radiant and solar output. ‘Crysta Ensolaris’ is fueled by the optimism inspired by the perspective of soon getting back on the dancefloor, after more than a year of privation : this sheer need to reunite and come together, be it day or night, during these sweet moments of daydream that we’ve all been missing so much.
Back to an EP formula, our core main producers (Nigm, Slowglide, Lebird, Shonen Bat & Ayuji) gratify us with five tracks full of U.V. vibes. Soothing introduction ‘Ephemeral’, by Nigm, is an introspective downtempo nugget, not unlike a mystical journey under a zenith sun, with its load of sonic mirages and illusion. Then Slowglide turns the acid up, layering breakbeats into the incantatory ‘Solstice’, a big-beat-infused psychedelic track perfectly designed to launch a neo-pagan rave.
Suddenly, here comes the eclipse. Lebird’s ‘Adonia’, a high-energy electro banger, takes us to one of those sweltering nights when bodies undulate and collide, breathless as the kick drum hits. Then, wild kid Shonen Bat propels us towards a gigantic solarpunk rave in zero gravity with ‘Planet Serotonia’, a hybrid, alien-sounding track somewhere between breakbeat house & high-protein UK hardcore. Finally, Ayuji puts a finishing touch to this fantastic trip with ‘Heliopolis’, a swift, solar house gem mingling Detroit techno influences with some trance elements. Like an ultimate rush of dopamine at sunrise, just before the party draws to a close.

Premiere: Slowglide - Frostbites

It was unclear how far the peak was, it stretched beyond the clouds, obstructed completely from view. The weather had been kind to them thus far, but it felt like a change in the air was coming. They followed the winding path through the snow, taking stock of how far they'd come as they reached each vantage point. Hours and hours had passed and the end was still a distant dream, but when they reached the summit it would all be worth it, they'd be on top of the world.

French DJ and producer Slowglide signals a new sonic direction with the launch of his label Vanishing Point. Previous music for Antinote, Global Warming and Comic Sans saw him exploring UK-leaning club sounds, but this next chapter takes him down a more psychedelic path.

For the first release, a seven-track tape called Mount Apeiron that marks his first new music in four years, he draws inspiration from a reading of René Daumal’s Mount Analogue, which documents a spiritual and symbolic take on mountain climbing. The music itself is a sonic representation of each stage of ascension, floating around lower tempos and exploring more psychedelic vibrations that touch on tribal, trance, drone, techno and electronica, but approached with Slowglide's singular eye and ear.

I’d been dreaming of it. Almost every night, even during days sometimes. An extreme warmth would wake me up in a sweat and an intense light would blind me, even though my eyes were closed. Though, when I finally managed to open them, only cold and darkness would surround me.
Somehow, I knew it was waiting for me up there. Above my head, hidden from sight behind a padded sea of clouds. Far beyond reach, yet I couldn’t get it out of my mind. 
What could I do, other than hope to finally feel its shiny beams taking me for a relieving rise?

At least! Here comes Smogo's debut EP on his own imprint, 6 years after the beginning of the label. With a blend of dark drum'n'bass vibes, trancy rhythms and heavy percussions, the Marseille-based producer is exploring wild territories of modern underground dance music. We remember over a year ago the latest installment of Crysta Ampullaris, bringing together a host of guests from all corners of the country to offer us an eclectic opus, where stylistic boundaries were shattered to give prominence to sound design and a post-covid club vision unique to each individual. While it goes without saying that we thrive on sharing, we must also know how to refocus on the essentials, and it is through reflection on a common aesthetic that this new volume was born.

“Tribe.” A marginal musical style, long nestled in the free party culture, now seems to infuse into the most mental and fast-paced forms of electronic music. We wanted to take a look at our own roots, in the muddy grounds of our regional soundsystems, where everyone is invited to uncompromising sonic journeys. It is where nature, humans and technology come together in a joyful celebration of inner and outer life. The familiar faces from previous volumes are present: Nigm, Slowglide and Ayuji deliver three energetic and shamanic tracks, exploring fast grooves, hypnotic patterns and twisted landscapes. New faces also make their appearance, such as Numa, a founding member of the collective, presenting a generously psychedelic and textured debut track. Additionally, Perdu et Retrouvé from Venus Club introduces a superb dreamy and tribal collaboration with Shonen Bat.

As you can see, this new volume is an invitation to travel, to move and to connect ; as moving and being moved is our mantra.

Since 2013, Slowglide has been creating a unique sound which recalls ancestral mysticism, altered states of consciousness as well as cyber-tech fantasies. With a special emphasis on sound design, he crafts uncanny atmospheres, dense rhythms and otherworldly soundscapes. Fed by psychedelia, electronic hybridisations and non-Western music, he’s constantly in search of fresh and unusual techniques to renew his sound palette. After a breakthrough 12” on Antinote in 2018, Slowglide’s music has found its place on labels like Comic Sans Records, Global Warming, Vernacular Records or his newly founded imprint Vanishing Point. He’s also part of the Reims-based techno collective La Forge, considered by Tsugi as “one of the most talented French labels” in 2020.
