We took the chance to catch up with Reece and also twist his arm to deliver another one of his quality mixes for Le Visiteur following his brilliant club mix for us last year. This time Reece stepped up to the decks and delivered a worship mix for one of his favourite labels, Defected. Something we were wholeheartedly all up for.

Defected Worship Mix - Mixed By Reece Johnson

Co-showrunner @wahinedj returned to Spin City on 7.7.24 for her monthly resident's mix where she welcomes Toronto's own @kikilefreak as her guest. The DJ/producer/promoter is a deeply loved and respected figure in the Toronto scene who came out of DJ retirement a few years back and has been taking Toronto by storm ever since with her explosive DJ style. She likes to keep her audience on their toes with surprising selections that meld the sounds of past and future. You'll find her playing countless venues across the city, including her own event Shango which has featured the likes of Gene Hunt, Dee Diggs, Heidy P, Eddie C and Peter Croce--the last 2 you might know as previous guests on Spin City.

A shout of gratitude to their mutual friend Jason for connecting these two. Without Jason's introduction, this episode would not be happening, nor would Wahine be making her way north to Toronto for the first time to play Kiki's event Shango in October.

Following the release of his highly acclaimed debut album, On Acid, earlier this year, Berlin artist, Recondite, steps in to provide two deep and dark remixes of Scuba’s ‘The Hope’ for the next Hotflush single. 

The label has long been championing Recondite’s work. The track ‘Backbone’ was a notable highlight of Scuba’s revered DJ Kicks mix before the latter applied his own hand on a full-throttle remix of ‘Jaded’, to close out On Acid. 

Here, Recondite defines both remixes in the form of two journeys taken at opposing times of the day: a late-night drive and an early-morning walk. In both, the energy and aggression of Scuba’s original is drawn increasingly into a more desolate landscape as glacial synth lines bleed over one another into depths lurking far below the planes of convention.
