How we move in such peculiar ways;
We to and fro always in tidal waves.
Your glistening teeth
Come gritted from beneath,
As I'm treading water 
Struggling just to breathe...
But when you're gone 
the water's still and bloodless.
I miss the storm;
Begging the new tide for love.

With each new wave 
I'm closer to the grave,
You let me go, my lungs flood slow.
With each new wave

An awkward sway.
An easy prey.
Through the night 
I whet your appetite.
Now you're gone 
The water's still and bloodless.
I miss the storm;
Begging the seabed for love.

Leave me here;
The sea will swallow me whole.
As I sink my dear,
I'm free of your control.

Treading Water

In the early bloom the palette of the spring resembled shades of you.
You were incandescent; the southern light revealing your most golden hues.
I’m just a slow poetic beast that pondered too long 
On nervous words that shouldn’t have crossed my tongue 
Whilst new life breathed through you in song
I was in a daze; thought giving in would clear the air of idle haze
Weathered of the winter, the darkness slept beside me and unhinged my gaze
The earth beneath my feet was frozen so long I lost the warmth that had kept me strong,
Whilst new life breathed through you in song.

Thieving from their neighbours in the late autumnal swell;
The harem is for the heavyweights with scars on their lapels.
Too early for the taste of blood but lips have split before -
Martyred in the mire and mud they put the other to the sword.
Unsettled by his spider legs there’s murder on these shores -
The calm gestates in cannibalism and natures wily wars.
Keep motioning upriver to the spawning grounds retreat;
The weakest lose their underbelly if there’s nothing else to eat.
Accompany the ptarmigan; be tender to their needs -
Show generous love with bundles of buds, and leaves, and flowers, and seeds.

Early Bloom

Plot-lines 
Of whilom skies 
Surmise in marble eyes.
A web – distilled 
In liquored skills 
And naked light -
To ease me through the night.
Why am I still clothed?
A hungry comatose.
Our earth has spun and races run
And still my dreams of you go undisturbed
...and from these maudlin dreams,
The dawn chorus sings;
It's songs of love - of what once was;
It's like a drug to me 
And I can't get enough
Of dreaming of you - 
But I've been known 
To bite off more
Than I can chew.
I'm dreaming of you 
But I've been known 
To bite off more 
Than I can chew.

Oh you.
You've dug deep 
Into my memories,
Monopolised the seasons 
So you're all I breathe.
I'm on my knees.
Oh you.
My brittle bow is tested 
In this empty flat -
No ghost could find his shelter
In this habitat -
How am I to build a home
When debts are stacked?
Yet I can't get enough 
Of dreaming of you -
But I've been known 
To bite off more 
Than I can chew.
I'm dreaming of you

Dawn Chorus

Oh dreamcatcher, 
Please bleed my conscience clean; 
I'm staring at my screen. 
Oh dreamcatcher, 
I've analysed our smiles, 
I need to rest a while. 
I've been held by her venom too long 
And It's made me a bitter man... 
But I've been searching in the overgrown 
For everything that made me strong, 
And that's made me a better man. 

Oh dreamcatcher, 
Please hear my song and leave hyperbole beneath. 
Oh dreamcatcher, 
I have to take my place; 
I'm already late to the race. 
I've been held by her venom too long
