I've been using the Headless M8 Tracker for about a week now and this was my first experiment with it. I hope to make more complex stuff as I learn it but I'm pretty happy with what I managed to do with it in such a short time.

Take On My Gratuitous Use of Arps (A-Ha Cover) M8 Tracker

I had some time to kill today and pulled my OP-Z out for about an hour. This short piece is the result of that. I still don't really understand how to structure a proper song on this thing (or with any other medium for that matter) so until I get that any OP-Z tracks are going to just be me playing around with small loops.

Also I just noticed that I'm officially at 100 followers on here. Thanks to each and every person on here that's listened to my stuff. I know there's still a ton of work and learning before I can consider myself to actually be good at writing/playing music but I'm still really happy with how far I've come in the years since I first started playing with LSDJ.

Undeciphered (OP-Z doodle)

This song took me about two weeks to put together and I'm really happy with what I did.

Every week, The Buckingham on Whyte Ave will do an event called Rockin' 4 Dollars where they get a bunch of artists/bands to perform. The general format is two original songs and one cover. They often do theme nights where you're encouraged to do a cover that fits the theme. Early August the theme was Edmonton bands, meaning we had to cover another local band. I immediately knew what I had to do. The frontman for BOOSH! was the first person I met in this city's music scene and the wider chiptune scene and I consider him a large part of why I'm still making music after 10 years. 11:2 was the first song of his that I heard and I thought covering it would be a good way to pay homage to my friend's music.

I'm not entirely sure what happened here, but I think it sounds good.

Chaos Theory

So I first heard a remix of this song when I played Platypus years and years ago. A couple days ago I managed to get a decent C64-ish sound by mixing manually drawn PWM waves with the vibratto command. Wasn't sure what to do with this until I remembered this song and that I thought the lead synth reminded me of the good old Commodore 64. Turns out. It was from a C64. I figured certainly nobody has done this song on the DMG before. Oh wait. Turns out the developers of the Jurassic Park game on DMG beat me to it by over 20 years. Well shit.

Comic Bakery(Martin Galway cover)

So I think I know a bit more about how this rom works. This was me improvising with a bit of a better idea as to what I was doing. Probably done releasing drone tracks for as while though. I'll have an actual song released soon I swear!

A buddy of mine is releasing an album soon and he teased it by releasing a song. I liked it so much that I figured I'd try re-constructing it in LSDJ and adding a bit of my own flair to the mix.

Nostalgia(Strvngers Demix)

A while ago I listened to one of my old tracks and realized I really didn't like it anymore. Something that I thought was good(or even acceptable) back then is just painful to listen to now. Still, there were parts of the song that I liked and it would've been a shame to throw it all out. This song is an attempt to rescue the things I liked about Jealousy and compare myself to what I was capable of a little more than a year ago.

Envy (Jealousy Redux)

Messing around with samples in LSDJ and made something a little weird but it has a pretty chill feel to it so I thought I'd record and upload. Figured the transition from the cymbals to the kind of melody thing was interesting.

Experiment Begins

This track is more of a tech demo of what you can do with sample manipulation in LSDJ. The entirety of the bassline was done by manipulating the samples that came with LSDJ right in the application itself. The main downside of this though is that the notes you can make with this is very limited and it's out of tune with everything else. I think I might come back to this track later when I install a variable clock mod on one of my GameBoys so I can get the bassline in tune and then sync it with another GameBoy for a melody.

Yelling Match

A few months back I revisited a couple tracks that I'd made forever ago and thought I'd make them a bit better. This is one of them. I tried fixing the mastering with this one on top of changing the instruments and melody a bit but I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to mastering a track. pls forgive

Also, for some reason, noise snares in the section between 1:15 and 1:42 will just sometimes fail to trigger leaving an empty space. I'm not sure what makes that section different as it's the exact same instrument patch as the snare in the rest of the song. It happened every time I tried to record this song so I just wound up taking a sample of the snare and adding it into the place that it didn't trigger after recording it. I don't think it's too noticeable but it's there.

Probably going to delete the old recording from my SC soon.

EDIT: FUCKING SOUNDCLOUD'S COMPRESSION FUCKED THE INTRO OF THE SONG AND NOW THERE'S WEIRD ARTIFACTS AND I HATE IT. If you want to hear it without the stupid compression that ruins everything, I've made the song available for download and the downloaded song doesn't have that issue.

Inv8ers (The Prodigy Cover) revisit

And here's one of the other tracks that I went back to. A cover of a track by Trance Emerson (formerly called Cyanicide(formerly called Trance Emerson)). I honestly didn't change too much with this one but the new bass synth and distorted pulse channels at the beginning really make it a better song in my opinion.

Hell (Clown Core cover)

This is the result of a jam sesh that @booshaok and I had where we messed around with Korg Gadget's split-screen mode on the Switch. I finally got around to tweaking the song into something I'm willing to call finished and I'm overall pretty happy with how this turned out. I'd definitely recommend the Nintendo Switch version of the app as a collaborative music studio!

Glass Cannon (Ft. Boosh!)

Just realized that I never uploaded this track. Me and a friend (@henning373) made this some time last year to test out a digital tape delay that he'd just bought.
We routed a Gameboy running Nanoloop Mono and some of his synth stuff through the delay and the resulting sound reminded us of a ton of ants skittering about.

Like, you can almost feel them all crawling all over you when you listen to it.

So the original WIP of this song was uploaded 3 years ago and I did finish the song but I just kinda forgot to upload it. Found the file again and figured it'd be something to keep the page active until I can get off my lazy ass and finish the album.

This song isn't going to be in the album but ideas from this song are used in a song in the album.

Something About the Fall

I had the idea a while ago to try speech synthesis on the Gameboy. I don't know the first thing about speech synthesis so I took the brute force method of looking at speech waveforms and just drawing that in manually. I think if I spent more time on it I could make it better but I also kind of like the feeling that comes from this machine not quite being able to form the words and say what it wants. Thanks to @pegmode_dc for some advice and resources when I first started working on this.
