The 'Sinhala Only Act,' which was passed in parliament during the tenure of the then Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, SWRD Bandaranaike, is perceived by many to be critical moment in modern history of Sri Lanka.  It was through this this act that a ripple effect on social structures which underpinned the core of Sri Lanka took place. This episode will focus on the post-independence political backdrop which paved the way for the passing of the Act.
