It’s time for Father Funk to get the party started: this Friday, he returns to Dirt Monkey’s 19K imprint for his rapturous Boogie Time EP complete with three funk-fueled cuts. Since releasing his full-length record Funkstep last year through 19K, Father Funk has become bass music’s grooviest act and continues to challenge the boundaries of genre on his latest work.

Father Funk links with vocalist Jozy to open Boogie Time: “Renaissance” bursts through the speakers with a funky hip-hop flair powered by Jozy’s spunky vocals and Father Funk’s irresistible grooves. Inviting, energetic, and unforgettable, “Renaissance” is just a taste of what’s to come. Next up, the EP’s title track ramps up the excitement right from the get-go: “Boogie Time” opens with a gloriously funky bassline and disco vibes all over the place. Father Funk demonstrates his bass-driven funk when the beat drops, flexing his one-of-a-kind sound design and unparalleled style of production as a whole. This funk-meets-glitch-hop crossover is the antidote for when you’re feeling low and need a solid pick-me-up in the form of colorful sound.

To close the EP, Father Funk offers the seemingly peaceful “Wondering,” luring in listeners with a soft piano until he enters the soundscape with a fat bassline and bouncy percussion. At the drop, Father Funk crafts an ultra-satisfying beat driven by glitch hop elements and melodious synths, a combination that will get any music lover on their feet.

Altogether, Boogie Time tells the story of a funk obsessed producer with the drive to challenge the status quo through his music — Father Funk has lived up to his name time and again, but Boogie Time takes the cake for his most
innovative release to date.

This past summer, Fort Knox Five released “Playin' with Fire”, a fresh slice of retro-soul-tinged modern funk featuring the sweet soul meets rock n roll vocals of Emily Molloy.  The original  is a strutting, head bobbing groover and caught the attention of both WBBL and X-Ray Ted who were eager to remix the track.  FK5 have been longtime fans of both producers, but these remixes are the first outings for these artists on Fort Knox Recordings.

Having been an admirer of his hi-fi glitch hop production for years, it was a dream to get WBBL to work his magic on a Fort Knox Five track.  As you would expect, WBBL added some overstuffed bass, zippy electro-synths and crisp drums with Emily Molloy's soul strutting vocals to create some space-age funk! In true WBBL fashion he has upped the ante and transformed the sultriness of the original into a funky 105bpm  glitchy-bass monster, both beautiful to listen to and bombastic enough to get your booty shaking!.

X-Ray Ted has been pumping out the funky beats on our good friends' Bombstrikes label, and his tracks have been an integral part of the FK5 DJ sets over the past few years. On his remix, X-Ray Ted ups the tempo and gives the track a healthy dose of what It  needs for the dance floor: breakbeats!  We are talking about the  classic party breaks style, as in breakdancers, b-boys and b-girls.  Crisp funky drummer beats along with  flutes,  percussion and a funky vintage bass line come together for a classic b-boy anthem vibe.  

We are so pleased to have finally gotten our U.K. brothers WBBL and X-Ray Ted to remix Fort Knox Five! Playin with Fire has become one of our favorite original tracks of the past couple years, and these two remixes take the funky soul of the original track and flips them into some dance floor gems. Instrumental versions are also included on this new release.

Scour Records HQ are thrilled to welcome a quartet of top-notch Australian music producers to the gang - in the form of Mood Swing & Chevy Bass, Swim Inc, and none other than legendary Glitch Hop supremo Cheshire! 

Mood Swing & Chevy Bass X Cheshire have served up ‘No One Above’, a deep and brooding glitch-hop number that’s riddled with original instrumentation, growling basslines, stuttered vocals, and a sound-scape that’s so sci-fi that when it came to remix duties there was only one name we could think of. Unfortunately, they weren’t available, so we gave our pal WBBL a call - who flipped it into an infectious bass house belter - perfecto!

Wrapping up the release, Swim Inc joins the Mood Swing & Chevy Bass collab party with ‘Higher’. A bass-heavy glitch funk groover, built around a sample that’s just on the tip of your tongue but also never quite there, making it instantly recognisable and completely original at the same time - a rare combo indeed.

I forgot to upload this EP to Soundcloud for like 4 months. Woops! I guess you should get subscribed on my bandcamp to make sure you never miss any songs due to my own incompetence ever again.

I recreated the original track by Featurecast from scratch using the same original samples and construction. The original is such a banger but I felt it could use a bit of an update and with Featurecast retiring recently, it feels like the right time to release this. I couldn't help myself, I had to gently remix it as well haha!

This has been a sort of passion project of mine. I love this song and I had no choice but to remix it! I couldn't resist. The original song is just dripping with genuine passion and a certain soulfulness which is something I've always associated with music coming out of New Zealand. It's a subtle style or finesse that shines through that I never hear with music from other countries. You can feel the heart and soul of the music in a unique way. I don't know how else to describe it other than calling it that special kiwi factor! And personally, I think many artists from New Zealand are slept on, big time.

I worked extremely hard on this remix and I'm very proud of myself. Not only did I do the remix, I also completed the mixdown and master myself (as usual). But on top of that, I also challenged myself to create the cover art, as well as animate this fun music video to accompany it. I'm not a complete stranger to graphic design and animation, having done a sprinkling of both during my career so far. But this is probably the first time I've completely taken charge and created all the creative assets for a release myself. And I think it looks pretty good. ☺️

Calling all funky bass fanatics! Slynk here to let you know that my remix of “We Play The Funk” by Five Alarm Funk and the one and only Bootsy Collins is finally out! I’m so excited! What an honour to work with these absolute legends of funk. I poured so much time and energy into this remix because I wanted it to be as hot as possible and do Bootsy proud and I think I’ve done that. Not only did I remix the song, I also remixed the original artwork and created this animation! I was going for a colour scheme that gives you that opulent, royal vibe. Well suited for the legends on this track. And I mixed it with the dirtiest rawest funk vibes I could muster. So, purple and gold basically haha! I really hope you love the remix.

I know everyone says this shit but it would be really cool if you liked, commented and reposted this track. It actually helps me out so much. I don't have a marketing team.
