hard drums, Latin club sounds, and heavy low-end. A bit different from what I usually play out, but I really dig this energy.

Continental’s own A&R and multi-tasking, all around vibe meister DJ drops his debut solo single ‘Yeah!’, the send off to his no-nonsense DJ Tools series on the label.

Pioneer of the Parisian electronic scene, long relocated to London, Jerry Bouthier joins passionately the dots between music and fashion. The resident dj of east London’s infamous and now defunct BoomBox night knows a good tune when he hears one as his Continental label’s output testifies. His celebrated dj mixes for Kitsuné, Emerald & Doreen and his own Heart & Soul series are captivating labours of love that have attracted followers the world over. His stylish upbeat dj sets, blending genres and everything else fancied by this iconoclast Frenchman, never fail to rock the party from one continent to another. 

Also a sound-designer for fashion, his post-modern soundtracks for Vivienne Westwood – seamlessly merging classical into world music, punk into cosmic disco and more - have become the stuff of legends. In the studio, he produces as JBAG - his baleariscopop project with Andrea Gorgerino - together they’ve released 4 singles (inc. tropical anthem ‘Mogadisco’) and remixed Two Door Cinema Club, RÜFÜS, Ladyhawke… however it’s now time for a new recording chapter.

Jerry explains why he’s never released a record under his own name before:
“I come from a band/group background and as long as I wasn’t producing tunes strictly on my own, it didn’t seem fair to the other musicians involved in the creative process with me. That’s why we started JBAG for instance, the contribution of my musical sidekick Andrea Gorgerino is huge, it wouldn’t have made sense to release our stuff as Jerry Bouthier…
With time I’ve acquired confidence and felt I could produce some decent DJ tunes on my own, the kind of funky, housey stuff I play in my sets, nothing as musical or song-led as JBAG – it wouldn’t be fun to do the same thing. The idea of delivering a series of DJ Tools soon came to me, you know simple yet effective tracks that work the dancefloor well without fuss…
So I locked myself in the studio with a pile of old vinyl and came up with ‘Yeah!’, my first attempt at going back to house basics, fusing the soulful vocals of yesterday’s NYC dancefloors to the more underground, bassline vibe of London.”

On the remix front Barcelona duo Mordisco, takes the deep house route with a sensual chugger that’ll work its wonders in the early hours. Next another duo, Tel Aviv’s B1ZB1Z, turns out a dreamy disco reinterpretation spiced-up by a zest of indie.
